Samba4 PDC keytab creation for NFSv4 not working
...Jessie
with Samba4 as PDC, Kerberos and LDAP - all provided through Samba4, and
bind9 and isc-dhcp server for DDNS and DHCP, our environment is a mix of
Linux (Debian Jessie), Mac (Maverick and Yosemite) and Windows 7 and
8.1 clients.
The Windows clients use Samba and are all part of the domain
(YGGDRASIL), Mac and Linux both use NFSv4, and Linux mounts homes over
AutoFS.
The past year we have used NFSv4 without Kerberos validation but because
of new security levels in the organization we have to implement Kerberos
for NFSv4.
The problem that we are facing now, and have messed around with for the

NUT 2.x causes uhci-usb error messages in syslog.
...llo,
For a while I have been running NUT 2.0.0 just fine with my APC Back-UPS RS 800 using the usbhid interface.
I decided to upgrade to 2.0.2, and all went well (upsc and upsd/upsmon seem happy to talk to the UPS), but I am getting a ton of these messages in my syslog:

You're talking to someone who started on Yggdrasil and, later, Slackware,
and has been installing Red Hat Linux on corporate networks for more than
just web services since Red Hat Linux 4.2. I have installed both RHEL
as well as RHL/FC at financial companies. I've put a lot of Fedora Core

...mies of scale is everything. ;->
Most of Red Hat's move into the black came from their Cygnus
purchase, and not sales. It wasn't until the subscription model later
that they started making a profit atop of their already profitable
developer/services unit that Cygnus bought them.

Why? Caldera was a _good_ company until May 2003 (2 months
after the original lawsuit, prior to the addedum). Caldera bought
SCO and was going to have a split Monterey/IA-64 and Linux/x86
solution.

Actually, the first distro with a GUI installer was Yggdrasil, circa 1993.
It installed on 8MB of RAM using X and Athena/FVWM.

Despite what someone else said, I was (and still am somewhat) of a
major skeptic of Novell. Novell new it had to get off of its...

evidence/timelines that show linux is "more secure"
I''m looking for some evidence, backup up with dates and references,
that shows that the Linux community responds to security problems
more quickly than other OS vendors, and thus might be considered
"more secure". A number of fairly high profile corporations are
starting to look for such information as they consider Linux as an
alternative solution to other UNIXes.

rsync as a remote file system protocol?
Does anyone know of an existing facility to access a remote
rsync server as a virtual filesystem through gnome-vfs, FUSE, lufs, or
similar that supports listing the contents of directories?
I have already a bunch of web searches, looked through
http://fuse.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/FileSystems, checked my
/usr/lib/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/, and checked the list of available KDE

Dovecot setup fails w. multiple mail locations (gnus/dovecot/offlineimap)
Hi,
I am trying to setup a Gnus - Dovecot - Offlineimap - Webmail (Gmail /
Fastmail) chain and cannot configure the correct behaviour.
Any advice to get this working properly would be very appreciated!
I have set up Offlineimap to synchronise two mail accounts into separate
folders under ~/Maildir. After running Offlineimap, the folders look as

Dovecot LDA, Offlineimap and Sieve
Hi,
I am trying to st up Offlineimap to use Dovecots LDA to be able to use
Sieve for mail filtering, but am not sure how to get this working. I
think the right way would be to use 'preauthtunnel' in .offlineimaprc
and try the setup below, which doesn't work.

Problem deleting/renaming files
Hi - We have been using a samba configuration file similar to that
listed below for some years without issue. However when carrying it over
to a new server running Samba 3.4.0 (-3ubuntu5.1), we started
experiencing problems deleting files via Windows Explorer; attempts to
do so are resulting in 'Access is denied'. Similarly, attempting to
change the name of a file or directory is

Dovecot + SELinux permission problems
Hi,
I have set-up dovecot on a F17 box and am encountering weirdnesses with
SELinux (who isn't??). Again, I am trying to refrain from disabling
SWLinux all together, however tempting, but am stuck in troubleshooting
and hope for some ideas...
With SELinux set to permissive, I can connect to dovecot and log in to
access my mail as expected.
With SELinux enforcing, I can connect to dovecot,

Intermittent file server problems
Hi - We have been running into some intermittent problems with Samba in
a configuration where it is employed as a file server for several Windows
Server 2003 boxes. This problem generally occurs only under heavy load
when running some I/O intensive programs on the Windows side. Another
common element seems to involve working with files that remain open for
a long duration and are heavily updated.
