smbclient queue and cancel commands not working
Hi,
I'm trying to manage printer queues on a XP box in the lan. Other client
commands work well, even
echo "test" | smbclient //XPBOX/PRINTER -c "print -"
works as expected and starts a print job. But either queue and cancel
don't work, without debug flags with no errors. Cancel even says job is
deleted. With -d4 I see
# smbclient -d3 //volker/HPDJ1120C -U admin -c "cancel 1"

smbclient tar function : no password asked ?
Hello,
We're using samba 3.0.24 on a Linux box, to access and
backup some XP boxes. smbclient access is okay, but
there is something quite weird with the tar
subfunction
-----
$ smbclient //xpbox/Documents -U someuser -d 2 -Tc
/tmp/tarfile .
added interface ip=192.168.1.xxx bcast=192.168.1.255
nmask=255.255.255.0
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
-----
Smbclient does NOT ask us for a password when used
that way. We have no problem if giving the password on
the command line (som...

Permissions on Samba share for Windows users
...ied to give ownership of the /mnt/windows/Software directory to domadm but I cannot-
It comes back with:
bash-2.05b$ chgrp domadm Software
chgrp: changing group of `Software': Operation not permitted
I did this as root. The partition is a FAT32 Partition.
Now as tim from my windows xpbox I can browse the Linux Software share but jon can not!
I have jon in the domadm group, the share is browseable...what am I missing?
I love Samba - but I really need to nail down how I'm going to implement permissions on directories and files!

Re: automount shares
...requirements, you could set up a mount point in autofs. In the
/etc/auto.master file, set up the mount point and connection file
/home/user/mnt /etc/auto.user --timeout=60
Then in your /etc/auto.user file, set up the specific share connection
(sub appropriate values for user, uid and IP/share)
xpbox
-fstype=smbfs,credentials=/home/user/etc/domain.credentials,uid=xxx,rw
://10.0.0.1/temp\$
You can set up multiple samba credential files for different domains
(NT, AD etc) which gives excellent flexibility.

Windows XP
Good evening all,
I'm running samba 2.2.2a on RedHat 7.2 as a PDC and until today all was well. One of my users upgraded their workstation to Windows Xp pro and although they received a message "Welcome to the domain" when they try to log on they receive the message that the domain comptroller cannot be located to validate their account.
The workstation show up in the browse list.
