Re: Train wreck getting render_to_string to work from foreign controller [SOLVED]
Just for collective knowledge as I have found no info on this problem
online:
I solved this by adding an .html.erb file for the "missing template", since
by design or bug Rails3 will not find or render another controllers view (in
my experience). Then in the new html.erb file, I just put <%= render
"comparisons/display" %> because the views *are* able to find templates

CD burning issues & questions
I have been having some strange results trying to burn CDs under
CentOS. I don't think they are hardware related because I have had
some success, in fact most of this usually works.
I use k3b for most of my CD and DVD writing - it seems to work fairly
well (well, except for wrecking my installation a few weeks ago when
it crashed my installation and I had to reinstall to get it back, but

GIMP 2.4 on CentOS 5?
Hi,
I'm using CentOS 5 on all our desktops here (work & home), and I'm quite
happy with it. There's one detail I'd like to change. GIMP comes in
version 2.2. There have been some changes in version 2.4, and it's also
been around for quite some time. There are quite some functions in 2.4
that I'd like to use. As far as I understand, building GIMP 2.4 would
involve

Bind Issues
I'm running bind in a chroot environment. It seems that since the Redhat
snafu which wrecked bind (yes, I had caching nameserver running as well
but not anymore) I have been having problem with my slave nameservers
retrieving updates from the master.
Looking at the zone records, some are owned by root, some are owned by
named. I'm now confused as to what the ownership should be and

Funny result from rep(...) procedure
I'm observing odd behavior of the rep(...) procedure when using variables as
parameters in a loop. Here's a simple loop on a vector 'branches' that is
c(5,6,5,5,5). The statement in question is
print(c(ni,rep(i,times=ni)))
that works properly first time through the loop but the second time, when
branches[2] = 6, only prints 5 values of i.
Any ideas, anyone?

How to keep the same class?

Why not matrix? What am I missing here? Is there a way to keep the same
class?
The reason for the question is that I want to implement a k-step ahead
prediction for my own routines and R wrecks does not seem to like [1,] as
shown below.

Samba Authentication wrecking my head [ADS]
Ive recently installed three servers with RHEL5u5. After some messing on the original, I got samba working with ADS authentication. I then went and got it working so that users could log in using their domain name & password to the box. I got this working with both no restriction, and ADS group restriction. I have left it on no restriction wheil I get these systems up and running.
I then

Expire plugin - where to start?
I'm running Dovecot 1.1.3 on FreeBSD 7.0 with procmail 3.22 sorting the
output of Spamassassin. Just for me and a few friends.
I didn't like the ageing 'standard' IMAP implementation so I thought I'd
give Dovecot a try and it's really impressive. However, I'm a complete
newbie to its inner workings.
Spamassassin is able to find plenty to chew on so the "Probable

Unexpected behaviour of apply()
...=10, ncol=10)
mat[1,3] <- mat[3,1] <- TRUE
----
Issuing apply(mat, 1, indexes) returns a 10-cell list, as expected.
Now if I do:
----
mat[1,3] <- mat[3,1] <- FALSE
apply(mat, 1, indexes)
----
I would expect a 10-cell list with integer(0) in each cell - instead I get
integer(0), which wrecks my further process.
Is there a simple way to get the result I expect (and the only consistent
one, IMHO) ?
Thanks by advance for your help,

TOO MANY ERRORS
Ok, I've tried wine with about 10 different aplications and it always
returns SOME kind of error... and it closes... the only one I can run
without ANY problem is DiabloII.... not even half life runs on wine...
Using wineX didn't solve any problem.. in fact I think it it even
harder...
Any idea why wine won't work with virtually no game at all???
thanks a lot

Renaming of Program Files folder
Has anybody else experienced a problem with Wine renaming the Windows
Program Files folder to !$!$!$!$.pfr and (seemingly) creating another
empty copy of Program Files elsewhere. I have experienced this problem
twice while running two different versions of Wine (the last one
CodeWeavers 20010305-1). Naturally, Windows takes exception to this and
won't run.
The information I have is :-

[newbie]: Samba as a server for Win98 PCs
Hello I do apologize for sending a newbie question but I need to know for
sure if what I am planning is worth spending the time.
I have 12 Win98 PCs with public IPs connected to the Internet. I want:
1) Turn one of the PCs to a linux box with samba.
2) That the linux PC provides login access to the other PCs. (I want to
eliminate the possibility of the users log in a Win98 PC and wreck

Force SATA1 on AOC-SAT2-MV8
I have a supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 and am having some issues getting drives to work. From what I can tell, my cables are to long to use with SATA2. I got some drives to work by jumpering them down to sata1, but other drives I can''t jumper without opening the case and voiding the drive warranty. Does anyone know if there is a system setting to drop it back to SATA1? I use zfs on a raid2 if

Sure, but the automatic disk creation is very handy and much less error
prone.
As it is now, if using a fallocate-less filesystem (eg:

Local GID conflicted with domain GID. Samba can't connect to shares
Hey All,
RedHat 9.0

I was attempting to allow several domain users the ability to log into
my domain controller with their logins. Because the server had no local
group set up for the users, I created them with the groupadd utility.
About 10 minutes later I got a call from my users telling me they
couldn't access their network shares because the drives hadn't been
