Where to obtain (how to build) small enough workable kernel?
Hi folks, I'd have guessed that would be a very FAQ but I could find no mention on http://syslinux.zytor.com. The latest version of syslinux leaves 860 kb on a 1.44 meg floppy. The current 2.6 vmlinux from Redhat is 3.3 meg. I downloaded kernel-BOOT-2.4.20-27.8.i386.rpm from red hat, as this is a kernel they "recommend" from booting from floppy. In the boot dir of this rpm I find:

Is building a load balance setup like this workable?
Okay, before anything else, all I'm using samba for is a "Windows looking" frontend to cups. Eg, so the users don't know I'm getting rid of the windows 2003 printserver and replacing it with a pair of linux printservers (Samba/Cups) I'd like to have 2 (or 3) printservers, all the same build of linux (debian), cloned, etc. users will be able to go to \\printserver

About arm32 address translation
Hi Ian, I am trying to add supporting dumping 32-bit guest on arm32 to see what happened in my dom0 kernel when booting. It seems gvirt_to_maddr() is not workable under arm32. But why has it been implemented both in include/asm-arm/arm{32,64}/page.h? Thanks. using emulated-tls on Darwin 8, 9, 10
...rsions, and this enables almost all current opensource software to be used on these systems. Software (like browsers) geared to these systems see downloads in the low thousands per release. I guess people either have a need for these systems for some software version or workflow, or have otherwise workable hardware that as been obsoleted by newer os requirements. Even PowerPC systems get frequent tickets at MacPorts, and we support them as we can. Some versions of clang will run on PowerPC Macs with workable coverage (in fact the only remaining hole is a persisting issue with a bad address for c++ e...

[LLVMdev] "Multithreaded LLVM" in "Writing an LLVM Pass"
...le to use something like libdispatch to optimise every function within a module independently. FunctionPasses are not (in theory) allowed to modify any module state outside of a function, so they should be able to be run concurrently. No one has done it yet? From [1], it seems parallel JIT is workable. Or I just misread the question? [nut-commits] svn commit r2708 - in branches/ssl-nss-port: clients m4 server
...> in the future, but this will at least allow a quick migration for > testing purposes) I don't recall that we ever discussed the possibility of adding NSS support by using the 'nss_compat_ossl' OpenSSL compatibility layer. Just to be sure, I added this to see if this is a workable solution. On my (openSUSE) system this seems to build without problems. Having said that, I'm not sure how future proof this will be. It could be that in the end we want to use the native NSS functions instead. I didn't spend any time on this (and have no desire to do so either) so...

[LLVMdev] Portable I/O
...le I/O across platforms from LLVM assembly using the standard GNU C library: fprintf(), stdin/stdout, etc. Ideally I'd like to simply provide a single bitcode file that could be compiled on each platform, but because the internals of the I/O on each platform is different, this is not currently workable. So my question is this: How do you suggest doing I/O in a portable way from LLVM assembly? My current thoughts run along two lines: 1. Writing a non-portable wrapper around the I/O routines to present a common interface to the calling module. 2. Conditional assembly for each platform, but I...

RODBC query on one line
Dear R-helpers, When I use sqlQuery in the package RODBC, I cannot break the line, but have to write the entire SQL Query on the same line. Is this expected behaviour? It is definitely workable, but makes the queries a slightly difficult to read and edit. I'm using R 1.9.1 and RODBC 1.0-4 on Windows Server 2003 and querying a Sybase database. Best wishes, Mikkel

Multiboot and machine trust accounts
...a user account I get a failed trust relationships error. I'm guessing that this is consequence of the win 2000 version changing the machine account password from the well know password, so that the Win XP version cannot initialise the session key. Is a win 2000 + XP multiboot configuration workable? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've RTFM and used google to search for answers without success. TIA

Ethereal plugin for IAX2
As mentioned on the devel list earlier today, I'm interested in writing an IAX2 plugin for Ethereal to make debugging IAX protocol implementation and simultaneous calls on normal networks easier. Anyway, I started work on it this evening, so it's not complete yet, but it's starting to look quite sensible: - http://raq626.uk2net.com/~al/ethereal.png A couple of people have

...;t be able to do that because this version of wine identifies itself with windows nt. Any workaround? Apart from this problem, I'm really puzzled at the poor usability of this software. I mean, programs like Internet Explorer should be the first thing that developers should make sure to be workable. The fact that just typing "wine ie6setup.exe" yields an error gives a really bad impression on this software as a whole. I know that the developers aren't working for money, but if they are doing this they should first concentrate on making a stable core of basic programs to work...

Functions within functions in R and S-Plus
...est.theta(x): Object "func" not found ". I have tried to keep most of the structure in my original problem (but simplified it!), so the code could seem a bit strange. I suspect that this has something to do with different scoping rules in R and S-Plus, but still I have not found a workable solution in S-Plus. mainfunc <- function(x){ est <- function(x,par){ abs(sum(par*x)) } func <- function(par,x){ est(x,par) } est.theta <- function(x){ optimize(func,lower=-10, upper=20,x=x)$minimum } est.theta(x) } x <- 1:10 mainfunc(x) Any help is greatly app...

bin/152154: script(1) -k malfunctions with certain shells (e.g. tcsh, bash, zsh)
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=bin/152154 It has been suggested to me (by a committer) that I should raise the issue of this PR here on these lists, because the problem described within the PR remains a real problem, and despite my having proposed something that seems to be a perfectly workable fix, no action has been taken on this PR for some years now. Regards, rfg P.S. Keir, This patch fixes cirrus and rt8139 co-exist issue in new qemu-dm.
