Linux can't telnet to WFW 3.11
My server is RH 5.2 and i use Samba 1.9.18p10 and the client use WFW 3.11 with
tcp/ip protocols installed. The subnet and the IP Address is right but I still
only telnet form WFW 3.11 to Linux...not the reverse. On Linux telnet is
working. I've checked it through this cmdline "telnet localhost 23 or telnet
127.0.0.1" . And I also testparm smb.conf and...

What shares are mounted on client ?
Is there anyway to ascertain what shares a client actually has mounted at a
given time?
I've got a number of WFW boxes connecting shared drives on my SCO-OSE3 box
using SAMBA 1.9.16p5 (upgrading to latest version RSN).
I've got some shell scripts on the Unix box which use escape sequences sent to
the client telnet to start programs on the client side. Some of these programs
assume that some shares from...

to an unestimated result. All files in the second subdirectory-level are
invisible. The files in the first subdirectory-level could be accessed
normally. This is only a problem on WfW Clients, browsing the
directories on a NT host leads to no problem.
Here is a part of my smb.conf file:

Howto hook up a Wfw 3.11 client to browse Samba shares on Solaris boxes...
Hi,
Sorry if this is the documentation somewhere; however, I need a little
tutorial help on howto configure a Wfw client for Samba:
I have two samba servers, 1.9.18p2, on a couple of our Sun machines running
Solaris 2.3. I know how to gain access from various Win95 machines in our
group; however, I was requested to set up access for a Win3.11 machine today,
and I'm kinda stumped.
This machine does have t...

...rely on these entries. In the file dialogues this particular
application does not allow access to the parent directory (remember
Windows 3.x - you didn't have those fancy trees and dropdown boxes
then).
Some hints
-Everything works fine when accessing the directory listing of another
networked WfW Workstation. So we can rule out a fundamental error on the
WfW clients.
-This problem does not occur when accesing the samba-Server from Windows
NT 4.0 Wks 4.0SP0/4.0SP5.
-This problem did not occur in an earlier samba release we used. I can't
access the older version number right now.

Browsing with 1.9.18p7 and WfW 3.11
Hi
We are using a Debian 1.3.1 server (two Ethernet-Cards) with 18
Clients. The Clients remote-boot from the server using
mars_nwe(Novell-Server emulation). Under Windows (WfW 3.11) the Clients
user the Microsoft 32-bit Tcp-Stack to access the samba-server( 1.9.18p7).
The problem is that the clients can't see the samba-server in their
browse-lists, nor can they access the server with net use... \\h931srv\...

diskless windows
...ecause the one I downloaded from MS didn't connected to
my samba server. I used a dos clients that creates a NT server
anyway after memmaker I get only 420 ks free, any help
in this point would be gratefully appreciated. I tried to follow
the docs I found in the samba site.
3.- I installed wfw, but netscape isn't able to see the tcp ip that
is in the dos below (in dos I do pings and so)
What windows flavour do I have to install ? 3.1 , 3.11 wfw ?
Do I have to use something like trumpet ?
I'm doing it completely wrong ?

Another Shot At It
...machines are likely to
understand how to share files across subnets using the same workgroup
name...but is Samba as adept? I have a feeling that is at the heart of my
problem.
I enabled wins support in my smb.conf and assigned the Samba box's IP address
as the primary wins server on the WFW box. I also set Samba to be the domain
master browser according to the instructions in BROWSING.txt. All of this,
alas, was useless as I still couldn't browse the Win-duhs shares from Linux
or the Linux shares from Winduhs. I feel that I'm getting much closer to my
goal (file sharing...

names that are longer than 8 characters in the /etc/printcap file to NOT appear

If we were to remove this limitation and allow more than 8 characters then
we will get complaints from some users who use older SMB clients (eg: old WfW,
Older DOS clients, etc.). In order to avoid these complaints we have kept the
8 character limit in place.
The real question now at hand is this: How long after one has eaten the chicken

obsolete, should we continue...

samba-1.9.17 problem deleting files from DOS
I have just upgraded from 1.9.16p9 to 1.9.17.
Platform: SunOS 4.1.4
In a DOS window under WfW 3.11 I can not delete any files, including ones
created in the same DOS window, unless I wild card them:
fails: del a.txt
works: del a.*
Any ideas gratefully received!

MS DOS client : solution
...OS client 3.0 redirector to work with Samba.
I'm sure you'll find it ugly, but it works. Under CORE protocol, the $"#&^ MS client sends unencrypted
passwords to the samba server (maybe there is no support of encryption in CORE, I don't know).
So as my clients are either W95, WfW, NT or DOS machines, I simply remove the support
of LANMAN1 and LANMAN2 protocols in the negotiation between Samba and the client. All machines
which are not DOS will agree on a higher protocol anyway ...
The only trade-off (?) is that at the first time, the DOS clients have to connect with the...

Maybe if you didn't announce as NT Server, the real NT machine
