Boring but useful VP3/QT patches
I think I'll start with the simple stuff, just to be safe. :-) Here are some cvsignore updates, and a fix for the inter-project dependencies in the MSVC *.dsw file. Using 'patch' (was Re: Boring but useful VP3/QT patches)

Any help would be appreci...

Independent implementations?
Hullo, When people ask me what Vorbis's license terms are, I usually tell them that the bitstream format is in the public domain, that the reference libraries are licensed under a BSD-like license, and that the example programs are licensed under the GNU GPL. (Note the distinction between filespec and implementation here.) Meanwhile, Theora.org's FAQ doesn't say anything about the

Some questions about Theora IP
...geable people can help out. 1) What are the terms of any patent licenses or disclaimers, and do they have field of use restrictions or limitations on code for which the patents are licensed? I found the following patent license in the original VP3.2 source: <http://svn.xiph.org/branches/vp32/vp32/VP32_license.txt >. This appears to have a sort of field-of-use restriction on the patent license terms; products that don't support the original VP3 bitstream do not get the patent grant. The patent license is also limited to the VP3.2 code itself and derivative works thereof....

Current state of theora & Windows port?
Hello everyone, I'm developing software for a marketing company which creates multimedia presentations. We're currently using proprietary Windows software, but are looking for a royalty-free cross-platform solution. It's important that the solution is royalty- and patent-free because the presentations are copied and given out in large quantities for free (as in beer ;-) We are

Quality of vp3.2 codec?
...p3.2? For example, how does it compare (bit rate & quality) to mpeg1, mpeg2, Divx, real Video 8+, Windows Media, etc. etc. It being open source is nice and all, but if it can't be reasonably competitive then there isn't much point to it. I just haven't seen anything that compares vp32 to anything else. (Although to be honest, I haven't seen much on honest comparisons of the other formats, either.) <p><p><p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a messag...

Theora, MMX and optimisation
Hi everyone, I just landed into the theora planet, as a game programmer, I searched for a free video fomat/codec and the theora choice became obvious. However I experienced rather bad performance (at least from a game programming point of view) After a couple a profiling, I discovered, as previous discused in a post found via Google, that the bottleneck is in the ogg library. An unsane part of the

BTW I am making VisualC++ and CodeWarrior projects for Windows and Mac, where the rest of our codebase is and where I had the VP32 code hooked into our tools. Just trying to assess the changes between the vp32 tree we were using and the theora alpha, and maybe migrate to it. Maybe it is too early for platform specific projects to be included in the cvs but I am following more or less th...

Can't find the setup code
Well, I've been slamming my head against this all night, so it's time to ask for help... Having gotten together a reasonably decent port of what I thought was the whole API to the Ogg Way, complete with Ogg mem management and bitpacking, I started digging deeper in the code... only to find that it looks like I only have a middle stream handler. The encode and decode code both assume that

...sion that Ogg Theora's been a bit of a "well, maybe, if we get time" sort of project for Xiph. Even the instructions on the theora.org website for obtaining the current code haven't been updated since before the Alpha 1 release (still showing that one needs to check out the "vp32" module). Even since its beginning, there has been almost no official news from Xiph on Theora. Alpha 1 was released without even a mention on the Theora mailing lists that it was coming (or even that it'd been released after the fact). Theora hasn't even been mentioned in the last...

Theora support in ffdshow a ffvfw
Hi, I'm developing ffdshow and ffvfw codecs for Windows. You can read more about them at http://cutka.szm.sk and http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow. Stéphane Bérubé asked me recently if I could implement Theora support. I knew about first Theora release, downloaded its sources and tested it. I liked the results add decided to support it. I implemented encoding functionality into ffvfw,
