Problems compiling samba-3.0.7 on Redhat-7.2
...-with-ads
The general build environment should be ok on that box (compiled the kernel and other stuff).
Any ideas and pointers are highly welcome.
Thanks,

Recommendations for a “real RAID" 1 card on Centos box
Hi,
I'm considering setting up my Centos Desktop machine for RAID 1. I read a lot of good info at this site:http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html#intel-vitesse about differences in fakeraid and real raid cards.
The hardware I plan on installing this RAID card into is an Intel DP35DP motherboard with the Intel E4500 dual core processor, and I have two Mator 500 gig SATA hard drives.
Can anyone recommend a good ?real raid? card for my Linux? What I am lo...

Arrggg Samba is not behaving
Dear all,
A while ago I posted a message regading the way Samba is behaving
and some problems that I was facing with Windows "loosing"
the connection with the server...
Here is another sample of what my /var/log/messages still looks like:

Samba share over a NFS mount (tuning)
...3 are read only. I think it is a file lock
issue because went I disable the file lock at the NFS mount or in Samba
smb.conf file. In my case, I just cannot disable file lock in my production
environment.

NT Crashes when doing large network file Xfers (was Re: NT crashes during smbtar)
Ernie,
Thanks for the great info.. Based on what you were seeing, would
you suspect that part of the problem is with the combination of NT
and the 3com card (3c595)? Currently, we are ONLY seeing this
under NT Workstation (not server) and almost all of our machines
have this same 3com 3c595 card (only if using 100BaseT)..

Nice chassis for ZFS server
Hi,
I just came across this box [0] (McKay Creek). Seems to be exceptional
building material for ZFS based NAS/iSCSI unit. I especially liked the
two extra system disks hidden inside the box !
Any one have an experience with these ?

Yager on ZFS
Not sure if it''s been posted yet, my email is currently down...
http://weblog.infoworld.com/yager/archives/2007/10/suns_zfs_is_clo.html
Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows
solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing
comment:
"If you haven''t checked out ZFS yet, do, because it will eventually
become ubiquitously implemented

hangin when listing named pipes
Hi
Even when you are not opening the pipe, but just listing it in cygwin, or trying to see the properties in explorer, you will have this problem:
Does anybody know how to disable named pipes in samba?
Or how you can kill the connection from the client side?
And no, setting "nt pipe support" to no, doesn't fix the problem.

Symptom:
Samba daemon hanging when trying to open
