OT: long - Replacing CD's? was RE: New type of copy-prot ected audio CDs are coming...
It won't be long until big labels attempt to eliminate the digital ins and outs of equipment. The problem they face is most people that currently use a rack system featuring digital interconnects will NEVER revert to an analog only system. I know that I won't! Think back to VHS, BetaMax, SVHS and LaserDisc. VHS has incredible market share because its licensing is open. Betamax was strangled by Sony. SVHS and LaserDisc failed to reach critical mass because they offered only incremental improvements and were not backward compatible. Attempts to supplant CD's with a...

Implementing Shares
....0.2. I have the SAMBA acting as the PDC in the network where most of the clients are Win95. Earlier we had a Novell Netware Network and I decided to shift over to Linux/Samba. I am having trouble implementing certain shares. The exact problem is described below: I want ONLY 'nhs' and 'vhs' to have read only access to '/usr/iso9001/edp' directory. Nobody else should be able to view this share. How do I implement this? In the smb.conf file I have the following parameters declared for this share - [ISO-EDP] comment = ISO files for the EDP department path = /usr/iso90...

The signal is the FM-modulated video signal of video tapes (like VHS). The idea is to capture the signal directly from the video head amplifier in the VCR and later demodulate/decode it in software, providing higher quality than traditional capture of analog video. See this project: https://github.com/oyvindln/vhs-decode/ I started to design a capture device, as the...

new MS codecs
...operating system, codenamed “Whistler”, which features advanced audio and video functions. He also unveiled new Windows Media 8 audio and video codecs with significant quality improvements. Near CD-quality audio is now available at 48Kbps, beating Microsoft’s previous 64Kbps rate. For video, “near VHS” is available at 250Kbps, while “near DVD” is at 500Kbps. The quest for higher quality audio and video is growing rapidly. In May, RealNetworks announced RealVideo 8, which it claims can show VHS quality video at about 300Kbps. More recently, it announced RealAudio 8, which provides CD quality au...

Should analyses be able to hold AssertingVH to IR? (related to PR28400)
...on functions. But my workaround doesn't help at all, much to my surprise afterward! Why? Well of course because CallGraph is a *module analysis*. We can't just go invalidating every module analysis every time we remove a function... :: sigh :: #2: SCEV and LVI have *basic block* asserting VHs. For some reason, all the test cases I have stem from deleting an entire function, but there is no real reason that will be the case. It seems entirely plausible to nuke a basic block out from under one of these. So no, I think we need a better answer here. After thinking about this a lot, and t...

FAX, IAX and *....Maybe I'm dreaming...:-)
Hi, It would be great if the IAX protocol will be able to tranfer fax data (even converted in another format) between Asterisk boxes, using low bandwidth codecs like GSM. I know that this is possible only with the G.711 now (passing faxes using the audio stream), but.... maybe in the future...some native support will permit this. Just a thought, Dan

SMBFS stack overflow?
Sorry about the previous message... Note that the maintainer listed in MAINTAINERS is no longer active, so perhaps it should be updated? I've found a problem with SMBFS and *really* long pathnames. It causes the kernel to OOPS, and sometimes corrupts the kernel stack. I've even had it corrupt the SLAB allocator so bad that no binary could be run :) REPORTING-BUGS format answers, let
