Red Hat is Planning To Deprecate KDE on RHEL By 2024
https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/11/02/rhel_deprecates_kde/ That's still several years in the future, of course. I use Mate on all of my machines rather than Gnome or KDE and I'm sure many of you fine folks do the same. But it's interesting nonetheless. -- MELVILLE THEATRE ~ Real D 3D Digital Cinema ~ www.melvilletheatre.com

nm-applet, wirless, and CentOS 6
...t like Gnome or really any of the mess-windows flavored desktop systems and no, I don't like the MacOSX flavored desktop systems (like Ubuntu's Unity) either. The 'desktop' system (if you could have called it that) that I learned on was DEC's 'DecWindows' system on a VAXStation 2000 (under VMS). This was basically a rebranded Motif system with MWM and used DEC's *simple* session manager. I presently use FVWM in MWM compatibilty mode and a home written session manager written in Tcl/Tk. I use FVWM's icon box module to manage the run-time icons for running...

Old HP Xeon server blade with only SCSI HDD ports & CentOS
Hi there. I got myself a pair of old Intel Xeon blades, which I plan to repurpose with CentOS. The model is : HP bl20p-g3 server blade Manual http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12322_ca/12322_ca.pdf Now, the main problem with this hardware is that LVD UW SCSI HDDs are hard to find and hella expensive if you find em (and of reduced capacity). Any of you know: 1. If there's any

OT: programming language for morons (newbie friendly language in Open Source world)
Hi folks I have more than 12 years experience with UNIX system administration, but I am too stupid for programming. My only programming experience is shell scripting. I tried to learn Java, but don't understand it because it is too complicated for my limited brainpower. What programming language should I learn? A friend said that C-Sharp (Mono) is very simple. Is this true? cheers Sven

SAS and R on multiple operating systems
Hi, This is not meant to be critical of R, but is intended as a possible source for improvements to R. SAS needs the competition. I am reasonably knowledgeable about R SAS-(all products including IML) SAS and R run on Windows(all flavors) UNIX(all flavors) Apple OSs Does R run on natively (no emulation)? We have quite a few users on these systems VAX-VMS Z-OS (mainframe) MVS VM/CMS(IBM)
