Does anyone have code to plot bihistograms in R? CentOS 5 + Nforce 4 SLI Intel SATA problems
I've been having an extremely hard time using the on board SATA controller on my nvidia based board. I have two 160gig Maxtor SATA drives attached to the on board controller, setup as software raid0. The problem is the array is extremely unreliable, where I'm getting constant I/O errors like: sd 0:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x00040000 end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector

LME as part of meta-analysis
Hi, I'm having a problem using LME and hopefully I can get some help. Here is what I'm doing: I have a model like this: yi = alpha + theta * xi + beta * zi + error, errors are normally distributed mean 0, var sigma^2 xi and zi are generated from normal distributions within a specified range. True values of alpha, theta, beta and sigma^2 are chosen with a specific mean and variane

NLS results different from Excel -- Tricky fortunes nomination
Folks: I thought the following excerpt from Bruce McCullough's post would be a good candidate for the R fortunes package -- except that it's about Excel, not R! So I nominate it... but leave it to others to say whether it's really "qualified" to be nominated. ---- "The idea that the Excel solver "has a good reputation for being fast and accurate" does not

Hi, I resolved my problem by using radius, but I think ntlm_auth was running as root (called by ppp ???). I verified the access to the privileged pipe, and it was accessible to root (quite normal, as far as I know...) SunOS-5.8 / Samba-2.2.0 W2K3 Domain Shares
Hello, We have a scientific instrument being controlled by a SparcStation (under SunOS-5.8) and running Samba-2.2.0 that has joined the campus wide W2K3 domain. I am currently in the process of trying to setup the smb.conf file so that users of a W2K3 security group can access a single share on the instrument. If this is pedestrian to ask, please forgive me. Tail area of sum of Chi-square variables
Dear R experts, I was wondering if there are any R functions that give the tail area of a sum of chisquare distributions of the type: a_1 X_1 + a_2 X_2 where a_1 and a_2 are constants and X_1 and X_2 are independent chi-square variables with different degrees of freedom. Thanks, Klaus -- "Feel free" - 5 GB Mailbox, 50 FreeSMS/Monat ...

use of R in big companies (references) & R-support esp in Germany
Dear R users, sorry for this general email and I am sure it has been asked way too many times. IT departements in big companies only want to support the big standards. Whatever big standards means apart from being expensive. We are in the process of trying to get a risk management project for a big conservative company in Germany. As part of the project we would use R to run simulations,

NLS results different from Excel
The idea that the Excel solver "has a good reputation for being fast and accurate" does not withstand an examination of the Excel solver's ability to solve the StRD nls test problems. Solver's ability is abysmal. 13 of 27 "answers" have zero accurate digits, and three more have fewer than two accurate digits -- and this is after tuning the solver to get a good
