Intel VT (Vanderpool) hardware
Xen 3.0 is supposed to support Intel VT (Vanderpool) hardware. I can not find any place that has these Intel CPUs or systems. Anyone know where to get Intel VT (Vanderpool) CPUs or systems? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! OS/2 and eComStation
Hi, Hoping someone can help me with some question on Xen 3.x and Intel VT (Vanderpool) hardware. Can IBM OS/2 or Serenity Systems eComStation now be run with Xen and Intel Vanderpool enabled CPUs? If not, what is needed? Are any drivers needed? Do you know of anyone working on getting Xen to support OS/2 or eComStation? > Jan 21,2004, Mark A. Williamson wrote: > Afraid s...

dual boot windows
Hi guys, I''m new to Xen - in fact I haven''t installed it yet - wanted to find out a bit more before I test the waters. Here''s what I want to do: 1. I''m getting a new Intel Core duo laptop within a couple of days. I believe the core duo chips have Vanderpool technology so it shouldn''t be a problem getting Xen to run windows unmodified - is this correct? 2. I need to install WIndows normally on the hard-drive. In fact, it comes pre-installed by the manufacturer, but I don''t mind blowing it away and reinstalling it from scratch if I ne...

HVM guest support unavailable
...I try to start a hvm the well known error message "Error: HVM guest support is unavailable: is VT/AMD-V supported by your CPU and enabled in your BIOS?" appears. I am using an Intel E8400 on Asus P5E VM DO Board. /proc/cpuinfo info shows that the CPU has vmx support. I have enabled "Vanderpool Technology" in BIOS. According to the xen user manual the package dev86 is needed. I am using Ubuntu 7.10. There is no dev86 package, but bin86 and bcc should work according to http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-users/2006-02/msg00207.html xm info shows xen_caps: xen-3.0-x86_32p....

any VT-d enabled mobos for Xeon 5000 series out there ?
Hi list, i have seen a lot of questions about VT-d on recent intel mobos. however, it seems that all tests are done on the newer socket 775-based xeon''s or core2''s, and not the 5000 series (socket 771 based). i was planning on getting a intel S5000V chipset, but found out that it does not support VT-d. Can anyone confirm a mobo that has this enabled and also has 2x LGA771

Etch: Xen does not want guests: Error: (22, 'Invalid argument')
Hi, I want to use Xen on a current Testing using the amd64 architecture. I want to use the i386 architecture for the laster Xen guests. The hardware is a Intel Xeon 5130 (Woodcrest) with the Vanderpool support. Two harddisk are used as a Linux software raid 1. Installing the hypervisor and rebooting worked like a charm since the bootmenu of grub has also been updates:) The hypervisor is running: # uname -a Linux mars 2.6.17-2-xen-amd64 #1 SMP Wed Sep 13 18:35:45 CEST 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux #...

RE: Run xen with a dual boot system
...s, but becomes near impossible on closed source OS''s. With future hardware (processors), yes it''s possible to run Windows, OS/2 or Linux from unmodified source code using Virtualization hardware extensions, such as AMD''s SVM (aka Pacifica) and Intel''s VTX (aka Vanderpool) technologies. This obviously also requires support in the Xen software to intercept and interpret the special functionality that Xen needs to care about (such as writes to special registers, accesses to certain hardware, etc, etc). With this technology in place (hw+sw), you should be able to ru...

Problems booting a 32bit domU kernel on a Debian sarge amd64 x86_64 dom0 host.
I installed Debian sarge amd64 on a Intel em64t processor machines and have been using the Xen 3.0 packages in backports.org. I can boot a 32 bit guest OS fine if I use the vmlinuz-2.6.16-1-xen-em64t-p4kernel, but when trying to use the stock vmlinuz-2.6.16-xen from their binary tarball, or building it from the source package I get the following error: xentest:/var/log# xm create debian0.cfg -c

Moved from Xen 2 to Xen 3... some questions..
...to go to Xen 3. Ive got it working, but I want to ask a couple of questions about it. 1. There no longer seems to be a seperate DomU and Dom0 built when I build from source. Is this the new policy? this would suit me, as I always used Xen0 kernels in my guest domains anyway. 2. Ive got me a vmx (vanderpool / intel virtualization tech) enabled processor (as shown in cpuflags in /proc/cpuinfo) - can Xen just use it from the default build (make world), or do I have to set any flags at compile time? it didnt winge about missing LibVNCServer, so I assume it wasnt built... ive looked in the manual, but it...

VT-d with Supermicro MBD-X10SAE-O
...working fine, but this may be important to others. By contrast, I *really* want VT-d to work. *Request for assistance:* Is there anything else I can try to do to get VT-d working? ---------------------------------------- Things I''ve tried since posting the above: disabling TXT, disabling Vanderpool/VT-x, using Qubes with Xen 4.1.2, using Qubes with Xen 4.1.5, using Qubes with Linux kernel 3.9.2. I''ve also installed the latest version of Xen with regular Fedora 18 as the host OS (all with VT-d enabled in the BIOS). Everything works fine so far, but I don''t know how to check...

No Full Virtualisation with Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 Mobile CPU?
Hello, I have some interesting issue with Intel VT CPU and XEN 3.0.2: I''m running XEN 3.0.2 on a MSI Fuzzy 945GM2 Mainboard (http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/ic/ic_detail.php?prod_no=4) with a Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile CPU (T5500). When booting the mainboard BIOS says it found a EM64T CPU, which is AFAIK the code for a Intel CPU with Virtualisation Technologie. But whether Linux

[PATCH 00 of 17] Documentation updates
The following series flushes my documentation queue and replaces previous postings of those patches. The main difference is that the xl cfg file is now formatted using POD instead of markdown and presented as a manpage. I have setup a cron job to build docs/html and publish it at http://xenbits.xen.org/docs/unstable/ (it''s a bit bare right now). The motivation for some of these patches
