Vorbis streems, old and new
Hi all: Well, after making the change to make use of the CVS trees and switching to ices2 (as opposed to the libshout example streamer), the icecast server at bumpy.braille.uwo.ca:9000 is back up. I've put my old 22khz mono files (encoded with beta4) back up on test.ogg. In addition, we've implemented a vorbis subset of Kirk Reiser's egoplay MP3 stream. You can now hear all the vorbis encoded songs in his collection at http://bumpy.braille.uwo.ca:9000/egopl...

rgl update: please test!
(This is bcc'd to a list of people who have had problems with rgl lately or who are known to be big users; not cc'd, so you don't all get cc'd all the responses on the R-devel list). I've just put together a test build of rgl, and put it on my web site as http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/murdoch/software/rgl_0.70.564.tar.gz (source) and http://www.stats.uwo.ca/faculty/murdoch/software/rgl_0.70.564.zip (Windows binary). This includes a number of changes: - changes to configure script from Laszlo Kajan and Brian Ripley: should now be much more portable - remov...

Winamp decoder plugin user-agent ident
Hi: Have been testing the latest winamp plugins on my icecast2 stream (http://bumpy.braille.uwo.ca:9000/test.ogg <plug plug>) and I noticed that in the field where the player/browser is listed in the log entries I see Mozilla for the winamp plugin. ID for machine?
Does R have a function to obtain a name of the machine that it is running on? I'm going to be writing results to a database from several different machines, and I'd like to be able to identify where they came from. Duncan Murdoch

Bug in new() or validObject() in methods package (PR#7922)
Something in new() or validObject() in the methods package is messing up. This happens in both 2.1.0 and R-devel in Windows. I'd like to have an empty expression for a slot in a class. An empty expression is an expression: > is.expression(expression()) [1] TRUE > > is(expression(), "expression") [1] TRUE > class(expression()) [1] "expression"

rank(x,y)?
Suppose I have two columns, x,y. I can use order(x,y) to calculate a permutation that puts them into increasing order of x, with ties broken by y. I'd like instead to calculate the rank of each pair under the same ordering, but the rank() function doesn't take multiple values as input. Is there a simple way to get what I want? E.g. > x <- c(1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4) > y <-

[Fwd: Re: pt inaccurate when x is close to 0 (PR#9945)]
Here's a contribution from Ian Smith that got bounced from the list. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: [Rd] pt inaccurate when x is close to 0 (PR#9945) Date: Thu, 11 Oct 2007 06:02:43 -0400 From: iandjmsmith at aol.com To: murdoch at stats.uwo.ca Duncan, I tried sending the rest of this to R-devel but it was rejected as spam, hence the personal e-mail. R calculates the pt value from nx = 1 + (x/n)*x; val = pbeta(1./nx, n / 2., 0.5, /*lower_tail*/1, log_p); whereas Gnumeric calculates the value as val =? (n > x * x) ? pbeta...

Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder v1.11a (BUG)
Hello I'm new to the list. I went through recent archives and didn't find any mention of this, sorry if this has already been discussed. When listening to a stream (http://bumpy.braille.uwo.ca:9000/test.ogg) winamp crashed after a few minutes. When i tried going back in and went back to the stream it worked for a few minutes again and crashed. The times are different (8:27 and 6:20, and 6:21), so it doesn't seem to be related to that, but every time its crashed was at the beginnin...

truncated normal
Hi, I want to generate random samples from truncated normal say Normal(0,1)Indicator((0,1),(2,4)). It has more than one intervals. In the library msm, it seems to me that the 'lower' and 'upper' arguments can only be a number. I tried rtnorm(1,mean=0,sd=1, lower=c(0,2),upper=c(1,4)) and it didn't work. Can you tell me how I can do truncated normal at more than one intervals?
