"Internal Error" from maildirs (new user)
I decided to give dovecot a try this morning. To create a test system I
copied mail from my wife and myself into /var/spool/imap. This mail was
already in maildir format from our mail clients. I set the mail env to
maildir:/var/spool/imap/%u.
Below is a session (via telnet):

Unexpected result from LIST EXTENDED command
I am executing this command below to dovecot-2.3.5-6.cp1178.x86_64 server
Notice that some status responses are missing (For folders INBOX.Archive, INBOX.spam.&-BD0EOQQ9BDkEPQ-). I wonder If this is a bug or working as expected
In rfc5819 there is this:
If the server runs into unexpected problems while trying to look up
the STATUS information, it MAY drop the corresponding STATUS reply.

Completely isolating P2P/BitTorrent traffic
Hi all,
I''m tring to isolate P2P traffic, specifically BitTorrent, for my QoS
scripts. I can''t seem to completely isolate ALL BitTorrent traffic.
I identify & mark packets and then use tc filters to put them into
appropriate classes. My firewall rules (below) do the markings. My VoIP
boxes'' and ICMP traffic get highest priority (mark 1). Then comes DNS, SSH,

migration question: "imap server directory"
In prepping our IMAP migration to Dovecot, I've hit upon a small
issue: the "IMAP server directory" which Thunderbird users have
set in the "advanced" prefs.
Our old IMAP server seems to set your current directory to ~.
This wound up causing users to set their IMAP server directory to
"/home/<user>/mail/" so that their mailboxes would be found:

lazy expunge folder delete bug
There's a bug in "folder delete" for lazy expunge, type "1 namespace", as descibed on https://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Lazyexpunge
When trying to delete a mailbox that still has messages in it, but that has no EXPUNGED/<name> counterpart, the process hangs after the imap "DELETE" command, and the following appears in the log file after a 60s timeout:

Dovecot first impressions
Hi,
I have only recently become aware of Dovecot and gave it a try. The
previous 0.99.9.1 version didn't work well for me (OpenSSL), I dropped
it, but 0.99.10 has come just in time (saw it on freshmeat) and I
thought I'd give it another try if it promised SSL fixes, and it's sorta
working for me (i. e. it works with mutt, Mozilla, sylpheed, but not
cone -- but cone is beta and has SSL

LIST problem with Dovecot1.1beta10
Hi,
Certain IMAP folder problems started popping up with Squirrelmail with
the 1.1beta10 version of Dovecot (and possibly earlier versions).
Looked into it and I am seeing odd behavior with the LIST command.
Here is how to reproduce problem, unless I'm missing something obvious:

Question about "target is inferior" type of message
We're converting UW-IMAP users here to dovecot. Some of them have seen
the error message
issued when Thunderbird clients try to delete folders and I understand
what's going on (from
previous postings) that Dovecot doesn't support mbox subfolders within
folders.
What puzzles me is that many of these users already have folders
within folders (I've found

Query about LIST behaviour
I've just switched from UW-IMAP to Dovecot v1.1.beta16, and I'm having a

What I'm seeing is:

Namespace prefix not ending with separator
I'm still battling my way through using hidden namespaces to hide the
change from UW-IMAP to Dovecot 1.0-stable from my users.
The latest problem is that some (probably many) users have their IMAP
folder prefix set to "~/mail" rather than "~/mail/".
I have hidden namespaces with prefixes "~/mail/", "~%u/mail/" and
"mail/".

throwing away unmarked traffic
A Linux gateway has two interfaces: eth0, with a routable address on an
ISP''s network, and eth1, which is 10.0.0.1 on a private network.
There are several hosts connected to eth1, and these are allowed to send
packets out of eth0 only after they login via a form at http://10.0.0.1.
Once a host logs out, the gateway should no longer route packets for it.
Each host also has a specific

Behavior difference in mbox versus Maildir listing
Hi,
My MUA (claws-mail) is having a hard time listing directories
for a mail account with two namespaces, one of which using mbox and the
other one using maildir to store mails.
Let's call the namespaces "#mbox." and "#maildir." and have "." as
separator.
Assume I have the following folder hierarchy:
$namespace
$namespace folder
$namespace folder folder1a

By design/possible bug? Folders unmarked from sharing are still accessible
I'm on LinuxMint 17 Cinnamon desktop, Samba 4.2.1, and Windows 7
I can share folders fine, but when I unshare a folder, it remains visible
and accessible to users. It should disappear and become inaccessible when
unshared.
Repro steps - sharing the folder:
1. Open up the Cinnamon file manager, navigate to Home folder.
2. Right click on Downloads, choose Sharing Options

What client(s) use this and how? I've used virtual folders - by
explicitly "subscribing" to them and then performing a search within
them. By hiding the virtual folders how do you use them?
