OS X Finder - Zero KB Available, Write Problems, Uggh
Dear list- On all of our Mac OS X (Samba) clients (10.3, 10.4) I have been experiencing the following problem: users would not be able to write to a published Samba shares UNLESS tha Global parameter "Max Disk Size = xxxxxx" is set in the Samba server's config file. I first discovered this issue while setting up a Linux server (using the 2.4 kernel and version 3.0 of Samba) last

Vista performance (uggh)
Issue: Vista reads slowly from a samba server. This appears to pop up periodically here and elsewhere. My samba.conf file has: [homes] ... vfs objects = readahead As suggested elsewhere. Writes are approximately 17-18MB/s which is acceptable. Reads are in the 8MB/s range which is appalingly slow. Using linux smbclient and windows XP clients I can read at 25+MB/s. I've enabled vfs

inefficient ifelse() ?
...uot;); return(2*t) } g <- function(t) { cat("g for", t, "\n"); return(3*t) } s <- ifelse( t%%2==0, g(t), f(t)) shows that the ifelse function actually evaluates both f() and g() for all values first, and presumably then just picks left or right results based on t%%2. uggh... wouldn't it make more sense to evaluate only the relevant parts of each vector and then reassemble them? /iaw ---- Ivo Welch

Shared folder hierarchies, multiple groups
...39; sub-folder, but there's a pretty clear WARNING on the wiki about mailbox name conflicts.) I can't use symlinked Maildirs, because new subfolders get created under ~user/Maildir/. (Want them under /var/mail/Shared-X/) I can't use hidden namespaces, because employees use Outlook (uggh), and I couldn't figure out how to "find" the namespace when it was hidden. (That seemed like the closest thing to a solution - it solved the LIST problem.) Ideally, Shared-Two wouldn't even be visible to members of Shared-One, and vice versa. But, that's at least an acce...

xen, lvm, drbd, bad kernel messages
Regardless of the filesystem (i''ve used reiserfs, xfs, ext3), whenever I mount a fresh DRBD partition I get some nasty kernel messages. This is under Debian Sarge, Xen kernel 2.6.11.12-xen0 (dom0) using DRBD v0.7.11 (pulled from Debian "testing"). This is what I did to create the partition. On both nodes I created a new LVM storage device and started DRBD: # lvcreate

questions about zil
I recently got a new SSD (ocz vertex LE 50gb) It seems to work really well as a ZIL performance wise. My question is, how safe is it? I know it doesn''t have a supercap so lets'' say dataloss occurs....is it just dataloss or is it pool loss? also, does the fact that i have a UPS matter? the numbers i''m seeing are really nice....these are some nfs tar times before

Tag Proposal -> Tag Standard
Alright. So, the tag proposal that has been labored over for some months has now been reclassified a bit. There new URL is now here: http://reactor-core.org/ogg-tag-recommendations.html And is prefaced by the following statement: "The following recommendations were developed by a community of Ogg/Vorbis users for their own use." I believe the implication is that this document

Problem uploading printer drivers
I'm running samba 2.2.2-6 on a redhat 7.2 box running 2.4.9-7 kernel... I'm trying to upload printer drivers from a Windows 2000 client. I've followed the instructions in the samba howto collection. I've created the print$ share, created the printer directory and subdirs, and made sure they are writeable by me. I put myself in the write list and the printer admin list.
