Fwd: Possible to load VBIOS TSR from MEMDISK, then load Linux?
Intel has VBIOS updates available that end-users typically cannot use
unless their vendor includes it in a system BIOS update. The only
exception is being able to use a DOS TSR (terminate and stay resident)
executable, which doesn?t work e.g. in NT-based Windows. However, I do
not know if this also applies to Linux (and that may be a question to
ask elsewhere). However, regarding MEMDISK, would it be possible to at
least do something like the following:
GRUB2 loads MEMDI...

Help Choosing Start Values for nls
Hi all,
I'm trying to do a simple curve fit and coming up with some interesting
results I would like to get comment on.
So as shown below, tsR is my explanatory and response is... well... my
response.
This same data in gnumeric gets fitted with the curve "response=10078.4 +
1358.67 * ln (explanatory - 2009.07)
So I'm using nls with the start values supplied by gnumeric.
in "First Time Through" I'm very close to t...

TSR supported?
Hi all,
I am new to wine.
Please let me know whether I can run DOS programs which uses TCP/IP
stack installed as TSR. I have a couple of old programs still not
converted to the new world!
In use: Pathway TCP/IP stack (This company no more exists!) and Sybase's
memory resident Net-Lib (for DB ibrary). This is how my old programs
still running in DOS boxes access a Sybase database.

Do Not Call List
The US has a Do Not Call list to which people can subscribe to prevent
being called by advertisers. Federal laws (strengthened by some state
and more local laws) assign penalties for calling people/phones on the
DNCL. Is there a query gateway that Asterisk (or an app using Asterisk)
can filter through to ensure a number is OK to call (not on the list)
before calling it?

is there a way to find the best ARIMA model automatically in R?
I tried to find a function called "bestARIMA" but it did not show up... even
on google it does not show up often:
I've only found the following link with "bestARIMA" in it:
http://sirio.stat.unipd.it/files/ts02-03/tsR.pdf
but where is the package and the function in R?

S3 Virge DX and vesamenu.c32
I have a handful of machines with older S3 Virge video onboard. They do
not show the vesa menu and instead appear to revert to the older
menu.c32. Vesamenu.c32 works fine with every other machine I've tried.
I thought this video chipset was Vesa compliant... When I run the
included vesainfo.c32 many different video modes are returned.
Perhaps there's a readme I've overlooked

Problems with plot and Quartz device (PR#13744)

I have encountered a problem with points in scatterplots disappearing in a
quartz window when it is re-sized (to make it larger).
I am constructing an 8x12 matrix of scatterplots each containing approx 600
points.

I was told to run the wsahdapp.exe file, but when I do

SO_SNDBUFF & SO_RCVBUFF - Here are some practical recommendations
...socket options = SO_SNDBUFF=4096 SO_RCVBUFF=4096 TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY
2. Kill your smb/nmb processes, and restart samba.
3. From a workstation, download and install siSoft Sandra (http://www.3bsoftware.com/Downloads/sandra/sandra.html).
4. Map a drive to your samba server. Disable any other TSR's/screensavers/antivirus/etc on your workstation.
5. Run ONLY the Drive Performance test on the mapped drive. Record the Buffered/Sequential/Random Read/Write values (all six).
6. Repeat steps 1-6 again with the values 8192, 16384, 32768. Anything greater will probably give marginal improveme...

File "In Use" when it's not... problem
Hi. Occasionally a problem crops up with "File already in use by another user" when it isn't !! This is usually a Lotus organiser data file which is on the RH8/Samba 2.2.7 server. I can't find a way of clearing this "Lock" except by rebooting the server... there must be a better way, any ideas ?
Thanks

[PATCH 0/10] Integrate msr.h
Hello,
This series of patches integrates msr.h header.
What it really does, is a series of steps to allow us
to get rid of duplicate code between i386 and x86_64 versions
With this done, achieving paravirt for x86_64 gets really easy,
just a couple of extra code.
The first patch was already sent a while ago, but was not yet pushed
to any tree , to my knowledge. So it is sent again. Also,

The problem is that animation doesn't work (an image can move over the area but swapping images to create an animation creates an animation with inverted colors and a black background).
Any help woud be appreciated.

unload memdisk+FreeDOS => local boot
...syslinux-3.11 distribution of memdisk.doc includes a sample mechanism
for 'disabling' memdisk. I decided to go for a slightly more radical
approach ...
As you know, DOS hooks a number of interrupt vectors. I decided to save
the first 128 interrupt vectors before DOS runs. The memdisk 'TSR' can
then restore those vectors later, along with fields from the BIOS Data
Area. This effectively restores the machine to its previous state and
allows one to boot from local media.
additions to memdisk/setup.c

I added 4 data fields to the patch_area struct that...
