this, and it works; but it involves building a big R

chokes my somewhat puny laptop (e.g. it can take about
1 minute to draw the graphic inside a plot area using

b) A contour map (on paper) of a region.
So, I can scan the document, and obtain a file in some

well, what we have (seems to be version 6.14) is definitely pull-down
menus, the lot -- like using Micro$oft Excel --
but slower than treacle on an Artic day to run.

I adore Splus when it works.

[Xen-devel] [PATCH 0/2] Remove 32-bit Xen PV guest support
...xclusively 64-bit since Xen 4.3 (released in 2013).
Over time, various features like SMEP/SMAP have been making 32bit PV
guests progressively slower, because ring 1 is supervisor rather than
user.? Things have got even worse with IBRS, to the point at which 32bit
PV guests are starting to run like treacle.
There are no current plans to remove support for 32bit PV guests from
Xen, but it is very much in the category of "you shouldn't be using this
mode any more".
~Andrew
P.S. I don't see 64bit PV guest support going anywhere, because there
are still a number of open performance...

rsync whole file transfers extremely slow over SSH - but only in a particular virtual guest
...verbose --progress --compress --sparse --copy-devices --partial --whole-file --inplace blackadder.example.com:/dev/dm-8 test.img
dm-8
47,825,017 -2147483648% 587.01kB/s ??:??:?? <---- s l o w
The above transfer started off for a few seconds at full speed, but then suddenly dropped to treacle slow.
First, we check the network underneath rsync. We're tunnelling rsync through ssh, so we test bandwidth through ssh with perf over and ssh tunnel, and we get expected speed for this link.

by installers! We just want to plug it in, click an exe, answer a
couple of questions and go get another cup of coffee... leastways that's

I tried the virtual machine (Puppy-Linux) and it's slow as treacle...
and that's a fast implementation and a compact kernel. I can't see
anything 'Windows' being any quicker. Do you agree? So the VM is out.
That leaves: Portable applications, which is OK, I suppose, but you

clients not connecting to samba shares
Hi,
I have been looking at this thread a while now.
First I think what Rowland and myself misunderstood is that you are not using a DC as a Fileserver ( in the beginning I thought you did. That you have a sysvol share on a domain member confused me) so I think so e of the comments from Rowland do not apply here.
Second, if I reread the thread and look at the description of your problem I think
