Does rsync use encription also for local tranfers?
Hy everybody,
I'm using rsync to backup/synchronize folders to/from USB connected external hard drives.
But I can't find an answer to a doubt.
Does rsync use encription also for local tranfers?
For "local transfer" I mean a transfer that doesn't go through a network like
folders synchronization with external hard drives.
I'm asking because the speed of local transfers

[PATCH][VT] Multithread IDE device model ( was: RE: [PATCH]Make IDE dma tranfer run in another thread inqemu)
Keir:
This is to to make the IDE device model multithreading so that
the VMX domain IO access completion (triggering DMA operation) can be
asynchronize with the completion of DMA operation. With this patch we
get 8%--14% performance gain for kernel build.
Thanks,

Re: Strangely slow tranfers speeds...
Peter,
I have the similar issues with OpenBSD and
Samba. I've detailed the revs in previous posts
to the newsgroup.
In my case one device, a Audiotron, can stream
wav files fine from a windows share on a
windows box, but not from a Samba share.
Windows boxes can stream fine from the same
Samba share.
My attempts at oplock, etc. have had no effect.
If you figure this out please let me

queues & tranfers
Hi,
In features.conf I have defined "atxfer => 1"
So, when a customer calls my support queue, and the agent from my support queue needs to transfer the customer to the billing queue, the agent dials 1, hears a "transfer" message and then dials the billing queue extensions.
The agent enters a queue. At this point, he can hang up and leave the customer in the queue.

I experiencing a strange behaviour when transferring a call. The use case is
like this:
- Incoming call from Zap/1-1
- Routed to SIP phone SIP/1001
- The called user (SIP/1001) wants to redirect the call and presses "#"
- IVR (default setup) says "Transfer" and user gets dial tone
- User dials 1002
- IVR says "No such extension - please try again"

Strangely slow tranfers speeds with samba 3.0.10 and FC3...
Ok, I've found some references to this issue with samba on the net, but not
related to the version of samba I'm running (which is 3.0.10, updated
version that comes with Fedora Core 3).
My problem is this, I've got a Compaq Proliant 2500 (dual Pentium Pro-200MHz
with 256MB RAM and the standard Netintelligent 10/100 network controller
that come with it)... I've narrowed down that

rsync to a port other than 22
I am trying to use rsinc to tranfer my ftp directory from one server to
another. I have port 22 closed off due to port knocking and I am trying
to direct rsync to use another port. Unfortunately I can't seem to get
it to use the specified port. Here is my command, if someone could
point out my error I would appreciate it:
rsync -avr --port=XXX xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/var/ftp /var/ftp

ATXFER discussion, what's your opinion ?
Hi,
I'm experimenting attended calls tranfers and I'm a little bit
confused.
In usual pbx's normaly there is no difference between an attended call
transfer and a blind one:
you just hit "transfer" then dial the extension you want the call to be transfered.
If you stay on the phone you can talk to the other party, then, when you
hangup, he will get the call.
If you hang

FAX, IAX and *....Maybe I'm dreaming...:-)
Hi,
It would be great if the IAX protocol will be able to tranfer fax data (even
converted in another format) between Asterisk boxes, using low bandwidth
codecs like GSM.
I know that this is possible only with the G.711 now (passing faxes using
the audio stream), but.... maybe in the future...some native support will
permit this.
Just a thought,

Tranferring R results to word prosessors
I have just started looking at R, and are getting more and more irritated
at myself for not having done that before.
However, one of the things I have not found in the documentation is some
way of preparing output from R for convenient formatting into something
like MS Word. An example: If you use summary(lm(....)) you get nice
output. However, if you try to paste that output into the word

retransfer fail of large files with inplace and broken pipe
Hi,
i have to tranfer large files each 5-100 GB (mo-fri) over dsl line.
unfortunately dsl lines are often not very stable and i got a broken pipe error.
(dsl lines are getting a new ip if they are broken or at least after a
reconnect every 24 hours)
i had a script which detect the rsync error and restart the transmission.
this means that if a file has transfered e.g. 80 % i start again from

Samba 3.2 PDC - Creating Zone Identifier files and not able to read/write/delete them.
Hello,
I use a Suse 11.0 as a Samba 3.2 PDC. The clients run XP SP3. I have
upgraded a few weeks ago from Suse 10.3 and now all files tranfer that I do
- for example, downloading a file using a web browser - it leaves a trash
file named "transferd-file:Zone.Identifier" or "tranferd-file:encryptable".
The odd thing is that from Windows I can`t read/write/delete these files.
