Timeliness of precompiled binaries--R-2.2.1 still not available as RPM
R-2.2.1 is still not available for Redhat Linux as an RPM on CRAN. It
is available as an SRPM. Can someone fill me in on why it takes so long
to make RPMs available? I would be happy to help make the RPMs for el4
and el3 if such help is needed.

Helping out?
Wow, three threads in two days, I promise to be less loquacious from now
on.
Anyways, I've decided to run CentOS over Whitebox on my firewall because
of the timeliness of updates. Is there some way I can assist in the
CentOS effort? It would be nice if there were a "wanted" section on
y'all's web site detailing ways to assist with CentOS, if any.

Door not hitting me on my way out
...s. I wish our release developers well, and hope that they
can open up their processes to allow much needed community involvment.
But I've hopped to Scientific Linux and find it much more usable due
to their willingness to publish updates even without the entire new
release bundled, and the much timelier updates from the upstream
vendor. php53 and bind97 are directly available for their verison 5.x
release, and their version 6.0 has now taken over my testing
environments. This makes EPEL's version of drupal, and various Samba 4
testing accessible, and I don't have to waste my time on backpo...

Ruby on Rails: Up and Running: Rough Cuts Version
Anyone read the rough cuts of this book? I''m interested in checking it
out because Bruce Tate''s work is always great. How does it compare to
the agile books (2nd edition) in terms of timeliness, difficulty, etc.
Thanks!

Impact of cipher and authentication to performance
Hi, I'm wondering how much performance boost there is to tinc if cipher and
digest are set to none.
In my application, I need to re-broadcast time not security sensitive
information to a bunch of connected remote users. The information is
usually disseminated in a LAN where there is not an issue with either
security or performance. However, for the connected remote users in number

If you forgot, the chances are high that the patch was unimportant. I
do my development on local git branches, so every time I do `git
branch`, I'm reminded. There's really no overhead.

A few questions for the braintrust
...hould we notify the user that there has been a problem?
In our scenario, there was just a very long pause (all of the retries) and
nothing hitting the wire. Since we have a watchdog in our system, it
reboots prior to completing all of the timeouts due to prolonged
inactivity. Is there a better, timelier or more user friendly way to
handle the errors?
2. Just curious as to why the decision was made to create new udp
connection instead of using the existing pxebc? udp is already set up and
configured. The reason I ask is we were having problems in our customer
environment with the routetable....

Registration now open for Silicon Valley Ruby Conference
Hi everyone --
Registration is now open for the upcoming Silicon Valley Ruby
Conference, April 22-23. This event is a co-production of SDForum and

Some FAQ:
Is this the same as RubyConf?
No, it''s an event unto itself, and quite a substantial one!
Is it only for Silicon Valley people?
No. It''s got some regional Ruby community emphasis --

So the goal is to make it easier for a member of the community to
review only commits to a sub-tree that interests them?
Let's say it may or may not be easier for reviewers to

What dramatising? At some point, several people decide that anything they dislike was said by me.
Several other people said far more negative comments about CIPE than myself.
Those comments have now been attributed to me.
I purposely avoided making it about whether or not CIPE should or shouldn't not be included, just why it

a couple of ideas/proposals
Byron Ellis has been making some progress on a hdf5 library for
microarray data (and any other thing you want to put in there).
In doing so some issues have arisen that are of more general
interest.
1) hdf5 supports annotation (through comments) so it would be nice
if the comment function in R became generic. I think this is
backward compatible and basically not really an issue of any
