XFCE-4.4, Samba shares, Beryl
Hi, I have CentOS 5 with the XFCE-4.4 window manager installed. (BTW, I've tried many XFCE-centered distros before, and CentOS offers by far the cleanest implementation). Two questions for that. 1) I've seen various HOWTO's about how to display Samba shares with the Thunar file manager. Did anyone manage to do this with CentOS? 2) Is there some HOWTO about configuring that nice 3D-desktop? I have an older NVidia card, a GeForce2. I wonder if this is enough. Cheers, Niki -- Dyslexics have more fnu.

Wine does not allow program to see USB ID
...Then I had to install the newest one and I used this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa sudo apt-get build-dep wine1.3 which worked great. I disabled automount: open a terminal and type gconf-editor. Browse to /apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount change it to off. I Installed thunar with the code: sudo apt-get install thunar Then I safely removed the USB and reinserted the USB but it did not mount so in terminal I typed sudo thunar which brought up an explorer and I selected the USB and it mounted as root. ______________________________________________ So that's what I...

smbtree vs nmblookup while looking for servers list
...ROUP> B <ACTIVE> WORKGROUP <00> - <GROUP> B <ACTIVE> MAC Address = 00-00-00-00-00-00 pit at t430s:/usr/src/samba/samba-3.6.6/examples/libsmbclient$ smbtree -b -S -N WORKGROUP \\T430S t430s server| Acually,in XFCE/Thunar, while browsing Network I get the same result as using smbtree, i.e. less that really exists. What can be the cause? I'm on Debian Wheezy, so samba is quit old, maybe upgrading will fix the problem? Thanks

DFS symlinks shown as broken through file management software.
I have setup a samba dfs server and file managers on linux only see broken symlinks. Is there a linux file managers that can handle the dfs symlinks correctly? So far I tried thunar, nautilus and Gnome commander. All is failing with the dfs symlinks. Commandline navigation seems to work fine through mounted volume and windows clients can navigate around the shared volume with explorer without issue. Any thoughts?

Differentiating Video from Audio
I am trying to write a "thumbnailer" for the thunar file manager that can process .ogg files containing a video stream and produce a thumbnail of a particular frame. The only trouble is telling which files have a video stream in an efficient method. The best I've come up with is running ogginfo on every file with the mimetype application/o...

Back to Xfce
Now that the basic server is up and running.? With Gnome via VNC (yuck), it is time to go back and figure out howto install Xfce without an Xfce group script.? So I am asking those with X64 Centos for some pointers.? Like where are the group scripts so maybe I can modify them for armhfp. I was reading: https://www.rootusers.com/how-to-install-xfce-gui-in-centos-7-linux/ Where the author

Can't Open "C:\" Drive
I am using Xubuntu 8.04 64bit. When I click the link to view the "C:\" drive it gives me error "The URL "~/.wine/drive_c" is not supported." I'm trying to uninstall my attempted install of Windows Media Player 10 but it doesn't show up in the Uninstall Wine Software program. So just want to go in and delete it manually. I am fairly new to Linux. Thanks
