Improve the Rails Lighthouse overview page
Hello,
I have a suggestion to improve the Rails Lighthouse overview page. At
present the description is very large. You need to scroll to find the
tickets and more importantly the list of pages.
I think a shorter description along the lines of http://i48.tinypic.com/2z6a7lt.png
would be much better. All the information at present in the
description can be moved into pages, and they can be linked

Asterisk as Internet Talk Radio PBX system
I see in the archives a brief thread between Barton and w last November
2003 about streaming to the Internet. I'd like to use an Asterisk to
mediate multiple VOIP calls originated from the Internet to the studio
to be mixed then passed out to an encoding PC thence back to Internet

Reciprocal Mill's Ratio
...in R as dnorm(z)/(1 - pnorm(z)) or, better, as dnorm(z)/pnorm(-z) for
small values of z. The latter formula breaks dowm numerically for me
(running R 2.4.1 under Windows XP 5.1 SP 2) for values of z near 37.4
or greater.
Looking at the pnorm documentation I see that it is based on Cody (1993)
and thence, going one step further back, on Cody (1969). Consulting
Cody (1969) I see that the algorithm for pnorm(z) [or actually erf(z)]
is actually based on rational function approximations for the
reciprocal Mill's ratio itself, as I rather expected.
I wonder if anyone has dug out a function for the...

Performance of CentOS as a NAT gateway
...LAN. All of these LANs are
connected through a single Linksys 100Mb switch, to eth1 on the
gateway. Thus, in case it's not obvious from that description,
traffic from LAN X travels through through the switch to eth1 on the
gateway, where iptables translates it to the IP address of eth0:X and
thence out to the net.
The gateway is totally idle except for handling these NATs; no other
processes except the usual OS bookkeeping. All NIC and switch
hardware involved is 100Mb.
This all works, but we're experiencing network congestion somewhere.
The LANs appear to become saturated when only ab...

Basic Samba functionality under SuSE 9.2
...the reasons using a class

connectivity is good.
I'm confused about the firewall on SuSE; it's enabled and maybe it
shouldn't be. All boxes on this little network are on a switch which goes
to a router, thence to my DSL modem. I'm not using the SuSE box as a
gateway, it's just on another switch port like the Windows boxes. The
firewall has the same interface defined as the inside port and the outside
port.
But the YAST GUI for configuring Samba has a checkbox for opening all
appropriate fire...

Cookbook receipe for SCSI tape install requested.
I need to install an HP Surestore dlt on a Centos 4 machine and I
am at a loss as to how to proceed. Can someone either provide or
point me to an online reference on how to proceed to add and
configure a SCSI adapter and tape drive. I have read, but not
really understood, the man page entry for st. Does kudzu handle
this?

Losing local SIP phones when internet goes down?
...I suspect it's something to do with my setup, rather than
a bug, but I'm struggling to see it, and would appreciate any input.
Setup: PC with two ethernet cards: eth0 goes to local network, including
two SIP phones (Aastra 9112i, wired, and Nokia E75, over WIFI); eth1 goes
to router and thence to the internet over ADSL. PC also has one Zap
channel.
the SIP phones use DHCP but have defined IP addresses (DHCP server running
on the PC). The PC is also running a firewall (FIAIF), but not a DNS
server.

All the virt-* tools that I've written have a non-zero exit code and
print an error message on stderr when they fail. Errors from inside
the appliance are propagated to the library and thence to the tool
correctly.
I think the best thing to do is:
- spool up stdout + stderr from the tool
- if the exit code != 0, save the spooled output for analysis
- if the exit code == 0, discard it (or keep it if you like)
Without LIBGUESTFS_DEBUG/LIBGUESTFS_TRACE stdout + stderr should be

how mem-set / balloon changes totalram_pages
Hi,
I find that after I use xm mem-set to change the current memory
allocation of a dom, the MemTotal in /proc/meminfo will give the
current allocation.
In my understanding, the balloon driver simply alloc / free pages, so
the MemTotal should not be changed. Only the free memory will be
affected.
In normal linux, the value of MemTotal comes from "totalram_pages"

Spatial Statistics on Grids
Dear colleagues,
I'm searching for methods to analyze spatial distributions of cells with
certain properties in a regular grid. For instance, consider a grid, where a
part of the cells have the property "0", and the others have the property
"1". I'm looking for statistics I could use for characterizing the spatial
distribution of the "1-cells".

After the installation I imagine I can make a boot from this dos

offered by grub. Then in future I would need only change the
syslinux.cfg and add appropriate kernel and ramdisk files for new
versions of linux.
So... I need some version of dos for its mbr? That's what I understand
from the documentation. Is that...
