Early warning wrt Win2K
It looks like Microsoft buggered up Win2000 so that explorer hangs while
trying to view a directory on a Samba server. I can't experiment any more
since I removed Win2K beta 3, but I thought I'd give the list a warning.

What I would like to do: can it be done?
...ng to add the users who need read-write access.
Help would be appreciated.
I've been playing with the usermap, read list, write list, and a few other
parameters.
BTW, is there a way for Samba to use the NT groups instead of the Unix
groups for checking write permissions?

ldap support
I was curious what the status of the ldap support is in 2.0.5a and where
I can get more information on what characteristics this requires in the
ldap database.

Printing problems with Win2000
Hi all,
I have set in smb.conf:
workgroup = "NAMEWORKGROUP"
security = DOMAIN

in this way I do not have problems for autenticate my win2000 and win9x
users by my NT Domain Controller, and share a linux directory, but is
not the same for the printers:

Printing revised...
Hello all,
I have gotten my samba print server setup, and I have no more 'Access
denied, unable to connect' errors on the queue status for the client, but
nothing shows up in the queue when printed. Also when I select cancel print
from the client, I get an access denied in the queue. I am using CUPS
1.1.10, which should be fully supported with samba as far as I can tell from
the docs.

W2K -Printing again
I can give you a suggestion that worked for me for the after reboot no
printer access. Make sure your printing daemon starts before your smb
starts. It seems that samba won't see an lpq/lpstat if there isn't one.
Funny how that works!! Hope this helps, and if I'm way off base, someone let
me know...

NTFS conversion?
Hello all,
I am looking for a way to move a massive amount of data from an NTFS
filesystem to an ext3 filesystem in order to move a samba box in to replace
a win2K server. If anyone has any ideas or pointers, or links to follow, I
would appreciate it. This is the first step, after this I get to figure out
how to incorporate this into an EMC SAN. Whoopeee!!!!
Thanks,

RPM question...
If I have the POSIX acl support complied into my system, will installing the
rpm detect this and install acl support with the samba 2.2.2 rpm for redhat?
Any ideas would be great. If this is not possible, I will compile. But it
would be nice to know if this is true. Thanks gang.

Refresh Script...
Not to many days ago, somebody posted a "refresh" script that I believe
allowed you to refresh samba without dropping currently connected users. If
this is correct, could someone repost please? I seem to have misplaced my
copy and now need it fairly bad.
Thanks,
Wade Winright

Printer fiasco...
OK,
First, thanks for all of the help recently. I appreciate it.
But...I have just implemented the cvs code as to be able to use the 'use
client driver' option because win nt/2k machines have been seeing an 'Access
denied, unable to connect' error for the print queues and this will
apparently fix this. I will describe my setup and what I have done thus far:

Samba Start
How are you verifying? Have you tried using top and looking for smbd and
nmbd? Swat may be giving you erroneous info if that is what you are using to
verify. Hope this helps...

configuration question
Hello,
The first thing I would suggest is to check freshmeat.net and see if there
is something comparable to astound out there for linux, therefore bypassing
the whole windows program need, bypassing the need for most pay-per-license
fees. As far as running a windows program under linux, you would need WINE,
vmware or some other win-emulator. Hope this advise helps some.

Network time sync and reverse NetBios name lookup
I made a somewhat deep check for time synchronization and I
couldn't find what I was looking for. What I need to do is synchronize
the clock on a Linux box to the clock on an NT server. I can't use NTP
or any other protocol because the NT box doesn't understand it. Any
pointers would be great.
The second issue is that I need to do (if possible) a reverse
NetBios name lookup by
