R Memory Management Under Windows (PR#3980)
Full_Name: David Teller
Version: 1.7.1
OS: Windows XP
Submission from: (NULL) (12.110.141.194)
I've noticed several issues with the R memory management under Windows.
It frequently runs out of memory, even when there is plenty of available memory
on the system and even plenty of free process virtual address space.
This tends to happen far more often when allocation a number of large objects

Novice Questions
I'm writing a program to perform linear regressions to
estimate the number of bank teller transactions per
hour of various types based upon day of week, time of
day, week of month and several prices. I've got about
25,000 records in my dataset, 85 columns of
transaction counts (used 1 at a time), about 50
columns of binary indicators (day, week, pay period,
hour, branch), and a half dozen

The perils of GMAX
gmax won't start up after the initial time. The messages I am getting indicate that it has become case sensitive with respect to names. The installer put in a directory named 'stdplugs' but the program wanted it to be 'StdPlugs'. So I renamed it. It still says these libraries fail to initialize. I must be missing a windows module but I did put in the recommended winetricks

foreach hangs when using doMPI on Windows with Microsoft MPI
??I installed Microsoft MPI.
Then installed the foreach and Rmpi packages.
Then built doMPI from source.
mpi.remote.exec works.
foreach hangs with the main process and all worker processes idle.
I launch my script with mpiexec:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft MPI\Bin\mpiexec" -n 3 "C:\Program Files\R\R-3.2.0\bin\x64\Rterm.exe" --no-save -q -f "MPI Test.r"

error loading operating system
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this problem. When installing from floppy, it appears that everything installs correctly to hda1. I can see all the files that get installed on hda1 when mounting it. However, after I change the boot options to boot from hard disk I get the above error. I have never had this problem before, it usually installs very fast and painless. The only difference this

Cascading queues & calls not joining unavailable queues.
Hi! - Trying a repost, my first message didn't seem to make the list.
I have one main queue with agents that take calls to our main
phonenumber. Now i want to cascade calls through to the fallback queue
immediately when all the agents in the first queue are 'unreachable' in
any way (be it OffHook, DND, Paused, etc...)
Somehow calls still keep hanging around in the main queue even if

[OT] Witty one liners or computer related proverbs
Dear All,
I need some witty computer related proverbs or one liners that some of
have used in the past as footers for your emails for example.
I particularly remember a PERL based transliteration joke/footer that
when run in PERL produces a witty output....
This is to fix a problem internally created by an over zealous salesman
at my company pinning up A4 sheets with bullSh*t sales proverbs

Weird(?) HTB3 setup
Hi,
I want to be able to specify actions for different classes of
traffic in any of these four ways, and I''d like to use only
HTB if possible:
1. No guranteed rate, No ceil
2. Guaranteed rate, No ceil
3. No guranteed rate, Ceil specified
4. Guaranteed rate, Ceil specified
For types 2, 3 and 4 there can be several classes of each, with
different rates and ceilings.
4 is ofcourse easy.

Samba 3.0.20b in ADS mode with MIT realm trust problems
Hi all,
We're having some issues getting Samba to work in the way we'd like it
to in our domain infrastructure.
We have a real Windows domain WIN (WIN.DOC.IC.AC.UK) which is run on
Windows 2003 domain controllers. We also have an MIT Kerberos realm
DOC.IC.AC.UK. A realm trust exists such that WIN.DOC.IC.AC.UK trusts
DOC.IC.AC.UK for authentication, and users have appropriate Kerberos

R 1.9.0 is release
I've rolled up R-1.9.0.tgz a short while ago. This is a new version
with a number of new features, most notably a substantial
reorganization of the standard packages, a major update of the grid
package, and the fact that underscore can now be used as a regular
character in variable names. See below for further changes.
