[Flac-users] High School Cluster - Beginner's Questions
...Technology Club in Camden, New Jersey USA. With a few small grants from Lucent Technologies/Bell Labs, we have developed a parallel-processing Linux Cluster (6 nodes) based on Red Hat 7.3 (2.4.18 kernel ) and openMosix clustering technology. Its not much, but its a modest start for a few minority teenagers in a urban city helping in the movement for Open Source software. We are using the following applications: KFract, KMandel, WideStudio, KStars, and POVChem. In terms of benchmarks, we are currently using POVRay 3.5 Image Rendering and the openMosix Stress test. While searching for new benchmar...

Your app release and marketing strategy..
Hey, Rapid web development is all when and good but when it takes 4 months to rise anywhere in google it certainly takes off the shine. You hear of zero to hero.. crashed the server.. minted before toilet break.. I was wondering if any heros would share their marketing strategies.. or prehaps an amazon link to "Post-Agile Web development". Does anyone plug an app purely based on its

Still the big Icecast problem!
...tware in > order to listen to a radio station, even a plugin... Of course. But that's not the whole story. Microsoft only supports MP3 because so many people listen to mp3 radio stations and files. And before Window Media Player played MP3, everyone had winamp installed because the nearest teenager (if I may) had installed it as a way to listen to cool--or at least free--music. So, the more content is available in ogg, and the more good and popular content that is available *only* in ogg, the more people will install the players, and the more vendors will ship support so their customers wo...

Extend logging of openssh-server - e.g. plaintext password
Also, if password-based auth is not allowed, WTF would you want to log passwords? This whole idea is ugly, and smacks of a teenage-level prank attempt. I would strongly object against any such modification of the main source (though I'm sure the maintainers are sane enough to never let such a crap in). Of course the original poster is free to hack his own copy in whatever way he wants.? P.S. This silliness underscores t...

create distinctive ring on FXS
...ension of one of the occupants you have no choice but leave a message. Works well... perhaps I miss some improtant calls, but if you leave no message it must not be important! Anyhow, I would like to be able to make the phone ring distinctively depending on who the call is suppose to go too(wife, teenagers, myself). I was thinking of buying a single Iaxy to do this but I cannot see from the specs if I could do this. If I cannot does any of you have an idea on how to achieve this goal without spending a lot of money(such has 4 Iaxy modules + 3 new phones). Another way I thought of doing this is...

type casting
Hello, I have a user table linked to the login code that was in the "Agile" book. When someone signs in they are assigned to a group, such as "adult" or "teenager". I would like to take this group string and reference a table with "find_by_sql()" so that: (group.capitalize).find_by_sql() would work (and, of course, in the select request in the parameter I would concatenate an "s" for the table name: (select name from " + g...

Time based calls charging and "reserved" numbers up to 999!
In United Kingdom, we have time based dialling pricing from most of Telco's based on time the call is placed! It is called PEAK (08.00- 18.00 Mon-Fri), OFF PEAK(18.00-08.00 Mon-Fri) and WEEKEND (all other times! Could someone from any of other countries let me know if time based charging exists in your country? Also, what numbers (up to 999) are commonly used for emergency, police or other

Fixed zeros in tables
...trates how this can be done. My question is: Can the function glm() perform the same task? Can glm() estimate a log-linear model with fixed zeros like loglm()? Thanks for your help, Andrew ## Fienberg, The Analysis of Cross-Classified Contingency Tables, 2nd ed., p.148. ## Results from survey of teenagers regarding their health concerns. health <- data.frame(expand.grid(CONCERNS = c("sex", "menstral", "healthy", "nothing"), AGE = c("12-15", "16-17"),...

not seeing windows XP
...tracked it down? The two windows computers can see each other, so the network seems to be fine on their end. One problem I do have is that while I am admin for my machine, I don't control what happens on these machines as they were saved up for and built by my sons. So I have to be wary of teenage territorial feelings. I am using the standard ubuntu samba which is "Version 3.0.14a-Ubuntu". One xp machine has been updated to service pack 2, but the one I can't see is the one who hasn't. I would have thought from my reading that it might be the other way around. The second p...

Traffic Shaping with Shorewall
...ts to specific inbound computers behind my firewall. This way, I can maximize my BitTorrent download/upload performance since the connection is two-way. I still want this limited, however, so that it does not eat up all my bandwidth. This is a home network with about 5 nodes, several of whom are teenagers. The network configuration uses a simple two-NIC server; the modem connects to eth1 and the internal network is on eth0. Finally, would incorporation of ipp2p into my rules help me in any way? My kernel (gentoo) is already build to support ipp2p and I already have the module loaded and iptable...

The 'not-always-on' infrastructure at home and Samba4 AD DC's..
...NFS, SMB, Squid+UfdbGuard, NAT, IDS, filtering, etc.. Most of the family laptops now run W10 (Microsoft Office at school is still a hard requirement in some places) while most other boxes use Fedora with the infra servers running RHEL7. Wanting to provide centralized password management to the teenagers and not feeling like managing local user accounts on their Windows laptops, I opted for Samba as an AD DC. To this effect, I built 4 RHEL7 VMs (one per physical server because I have no shared storage). I used Wing's 4.6.14 rpms (http://wing-repo.net/wing) because RHEL7's samba doesn&...

Centos as Gateway ? (Router/transparent proxy)
Hi All, I'm lately suffering from Quota abuse at home. believe it or not my teenagers are eating through my allowed quota. Hence, i'm thinking of setting up a centos machine to work as such: HDSL modem(natted to an onboard dhcp service for lan users) -> Centos - > Switch - LAN users Hw specs: 3 GB ram 3.0 core 2 duo 2 X 1 TB HDD 2 X 1 Gb NIC Centos will contain...

And WMP had support for MP3 files before it properly supported MP3 streaming. Same with RealPLayer. They added it because there was overwhelming user demand for it. BTW: You can use the access l...

A progress but a regression too
Hi! About last two CVS updates ago there appeared changes in the DOS VGA graphics console emulation. Formerly wine was able to play an old DOS game called "Teenagent". This game always created a small graphics window in the top left corner of the screen. After manually switching the Xserver to 320x256 resolution, it was perfect and the game was in full speed and playable (with exception of "Insufficient memory" problem in one of rooms. Now, t...

preexec and netlogon scripts
I would like to know whether under battle conditions (lots of users trying to log in simultaneously at the start of a lesson) I can rely on a client's preexec script completing its output operations before the client gets its login batch file. I am a school network mamager with about 1000 teenage boy users of a new (to all of us) Linux-Samba server. (SuSE6.4 and Samba 2.0.10) I have pre- and post-exec working to record logon & logoff for mischief tracking, custom stats etc. I have logon scripts driven by filespace usage stats, time-of-day restrictions and 'rogues list' entries...

My Experiences
...et. I turned to the 'net, is so, finding these mailing lists. These, with the combined knowledge and experience of many minds, helped me more than they know. Im still no expert, but I am much better at troubleshooting my server (RH) and getting things back on track, much to the excitement of my Teenage Step -Daughter and Wife. No my server is running Samba as a PDI with the only snags being my constant tweaking and upgrading. My point? Linux (whatever flavor) is like anything else, a constant learning experience, treat is as such. One of the most important things is your ability to hang on and n...

Adam Platform Technology test report
This is rather off topic, but I thought it was worth propagating. Those of you who've been around long enough may remember stories of an australian teenager who invented a miraculous video compression technology, capable of streaming VHS-quality (or was it DVD-quality) video over a POTS modem line. 5 years ago. And no, you couldn't see it. We have a demo we'll bring buy, but that's all until you buy. Apparently someone bought earlier...

Monitoring filessytem access
When somebody is hammering on the system, I want to be able to detect who''s doing it, and hopefully even what they''re doing. I can''t seem to find any way to do that. Any suggestions? Everything I can find ... iostat, nfsstat, etc ... AFAIK, just show me performance statistics and so forth. I''m looking for something more granular. Either *who* the
