RFC: Improving license & patent issues in the LLVM community
I really really do not like armchair lawyer discussions and this is just flamebait if I've ever seen it... --------------- #1 Is the submarine patent risk really that bad? (What's driving this) #2 Pragmatically have "you" even considered how to execute on this relicense plan? a. What if one of the copyright holders doesn't agree? b. What audit procedure do you plan to use c. Legal costs??? Is Apple or Google going to p...

Pinging ...
Ok, if I missed something in the wiki please point me there with the correct search terms. Asterisk 1.0.7 (AAH really) 4 co lines from Bellsouth into a Diguim T400P. Polycom 501 x 4 on the desktops. My problem is on calls to or from the CO I hear a "pinging" (thing sonar ping in a submarine) every 12 seconds. You can set your watch to it. COuld this be a "call recording in progress" tone. I have not made any effort to turn on call recording. If it is I'll go figure out how to turn it off. Could this be echo cancelation "retraining" Am I just u8nder d...

Theora patent question
Does the reason Theora is relatively safe from patent infringement lawsuit have more to do with it actually not being encumbered, or is it because its use is decentralized? For example, FreeType is not patent-free, nor is Linux, yet they succeed because on the one hand, they are open source, and those who maintain them do not guarantee anything regarding patents, it is up to each individual user

transfering decoder state
...open source. You DSP guys would probably curse us if you saw what kind of ugly things we do to compressed audio flows. One of them being: violently switching a flow from one machine to another. I guess it is not a nice thing to do and it ends up with weird audio artefacts sounding a bit like a submarine ping usually. (By the way, we have really good genuine reasons to want to do that :-) To be honest I have not yet much of a clue on how speex works, so anyone stop me right away if I say something stupid. The encoder/decoder are based on linear prediction and the information sent is somehow re...

temporary setups for ICEcast at festivals?
...nt part of the Pacific each time, and can draw a pretty good crowd. There has not every really been any broadcast of the proceedings on the level of international coverage. Do people think it would be possible to do this with ICEcast. Some of the problems are satellite connections and no high-speed submarine cables. There are a number of ways I would like to approach this: 1. Have a website which is interactive, and build a community, and big membership. 2. Publicise widely. 3. Create an Open Educational Resource (OER) perhaps using Wiki-Educator. A web casting for pacific artists 'how to'...

Steve Jobs about theora
I guess you've all read it already, but here it goes: "All video codecs are covered by patents. A patent pool is being assembled to go after Theora and other ?open source? codecs now. Unfortunately, just because something is open source, it doesn?t mean or guarantee that it doesn?t infringe on others patents. An open standard is different from being royalty free or open source. [PATCH] ocfs2: Limit default local alloc size within bitmap range.
In commit 6b82021b9e91cd689fdffadbcdb9a42597bbe764, we increase our local alloc size and calculate how much megabytes we can get according to group size and volume size. But we also need to check the maximum bits a local alloc block bitmap can have. With a bs=512, cs=32K, local volume with 160G, it calculate 96MB while the maximum local alloc size is only 76M. So the bitmap will overflow and
