UFS file system problem in either stable or current
...erating systems installed on
the same computer. This might also be an issue if you move an
external disk between computers. I don't know if the problem shows
up on all file systems. It seems to happen on all the half dozen
or so of the file systems that my 4.9-RCx and 5.1 systems share.

Intel 875P/ICH5 motherboard chipset
...; serial ATA devices.
There is also a new Intel ethernet controller chip, 82547EI, that is
designed to interface directly with the 875P chip. The currently
supported chip list only goes up to the 82546.
Is there a current version of the supported hardware notes for the
freebsd-stable branch?

FreeBSD 4.9 RC1 (more bad news)
...es booting and /stand/sysinstall starts.
I would guess that the bug is in the ata controller/disk driver.
The 4.9-20030914-PRERELEASE GENERIC kernel also hangs if the ICH5R SATA
controller is enabled in native mode, though not at the same point.
It wedges when the controller is first probed.

4.9-20030914-PRERELEASE hangs during boot
...re are a bunch of other FreeBSD users out there with new
motherboards using the 875P/ICH5R support chipset and some of them
also have serial ATA drives and would rather not configure the
serial ATA ports to operate in "legacy" mode (which renders one the
parallel ATA ports unusable).

DHCP and DNS
...consistent when using AD for the dhcp
service. Previously we were using our cisco router. It was rather hit and
miss with DNS registrations that way. We switch to using AD DHCP about 3
months ago and the numbers of host names registered to AD DNS seems to have
really improved.
Sorry this isn't strickly a SAMBA question, but I thought of AD had some
kind of API or data exchange between DHCP and DNS, then samba might also
have it.

FreeBSD STABLE support for new motherboards
...e support
for the audio chip (so I don't have to use up a PCI slot for an audio
card) and being able to attach more ATA drives to the motherboard might
be very useful. There is some hope: the audio system claims to be AC97
compatible and there is a Linux driver for the ITE 8212 raid chip.

zaptel PRI drivers
...fxo and fxs ports, IAX trunks, SIP phones, everything except a PRI
card). Now I just installed my first asterisk box that terminates a PRI, and
bam, HDLC errors up the wazoo if X is running, if its not, everything is fine,
I assume this is because the timing parameters for the PRI are so much more
strick.
I don't mind if X is a little less responsive (even alot less responsive), but I
would really like to be able to run X on a server with a PRI. Is there any way
to reduce X11's priority so that it doesn't interfere with the zaptel driver
for the PRI... I've tried renicing X as far...

GUI's for R
...upport them in their analyses if we use the same
software.
I spent the two last days reading the R-FAQ and searching the R groups mail
archives, including the R-GUI mail group and as a consequence of all this
reading I am a bit confused. At first I gathered that there was no GUI for
R, that R was strickly a CLI language. What brought me to that conclusion
is the fact that on the R-project pages they refer the readers to external
builders of GUIs like the R-Commander of John Fox, Brodgar, TeXmacs,
SciViews etc.. On the other hand searching the mail archives for the word
"R-GUI" yielded...

find(:all) vs find_all
I started with Ruby on Rails in the 0.13.x period, so I''m sure I
missed out on a lot of history. There''s probably some good
explanation for something I''ve been wondering about, but I haven''t
seen it written down anywhere. Maybe someone can clue me in.
I''ve always felt that one of the uglier APIs was the
ActiveRecord::find() method. I call

Feature request? Make deliver quota inclusive!
hi all,
I'd like to make deliver put mail into a nearly full mailbox even when
they become overquota as a result. The same problem came up a few weeks
ago: http://dovecot.org/list/dovecot/2010-January/045695.html
Since no solution was offered may I suggest this topic as an additional
feature for future releases? ;-)
This is a important for me because sometimes users are lazy. They think

[Bug 910] known_hosts port numbers
...e known_hosts file only records the IP address of the machine,
and therefore if a person connects to host A, accepts the host key, and then
tries to connect to host B or host C they will get a message indicating that the
host key has changed. In our production environment, we force our users to use
strick host key checking, and they don't have direct access to their known_hosts
file.
This bug/feature request is for the inclusion of the port number in the
known_hosts file. I'd recommend in the known_hosts format:
ip.ip.ip.ip:port ...
... where the :port is new, and if not specified default...

Access Denied after Upgrade passed 3.0.2a
I have upgraded many Samba versions over the years with great success.
I use Samba on Solaris/Sparc systems strickly as member servers (file
servers) of my normal Windows XP Domain.
Recently I have attempted to upgrade from Samba 3.0.2a to anything
newer, specifically 3.0.8, 3.0.10, and 3.0.11.
I've successfully compiled Samba 308 & 3011. Everything works GREAT,
except I have no write access to my...

probability plot correlation coefficient
As a newbie to R, I'm still rather at a loss for finding information
(the commands names can be rather arcane)so I'm just posting my question:
I would like to estimate the shape coefficient of diverse
distributions (Weibull, gamma and Tukey-Lambda specifically, but other
could be of interest)
- Does R have a PPCC utility to estimate such parameter?(maximum value
of correlation coef)

Import vmware vmdk into xVM (osol-2009.06)
Good afternoon,
I was wondering if anyone has any in site as to how to import a VMware vmdk into xVM on OpenSolaris 2009.06 (xVM 3.1). I have a VMware VM created on VMware Server 2.0 and would like to move it over to this xVM server.
I appreciate any advice anyone may have.
Cheers,
-Chris

Well APIs are just that - internal kernel APIs.
If the only user of an API is virtio, we can strick the
code in virtio.h just as well.
I think controlling this dynamically and not statically
in e.g. devicetree is important though.
E.g. on intel x86, there's an option iommu=pt which does the 1:1
thing for devices when used by kernel, but enables
the iommu if used by userspace/VMs.
