Issues with file.info?
Are there any tricks associated with file.info? I just tried it on a directory folder and it returned NA for all fields for all files. I tried it on a different folder with different files and it still returned NA. I tried it on a specific file and it returned all the proper info correctly. Just wondering if t...

special tricks for developers box on centos 5
I was just wondering if there are special tricks people do that compile A LOT on centos? Do RAM disks help or something else I dont about that minimizes your compile time? I presently have and AMD x2 4800+ with 2GIG ram. Just curious if I can reduce any more time out of my compiles. Jerry

Any dialing tricks...
Alright, I am basically cheap, and I have a cellular plan which allows for free incoming calls (Nextel). I was wondering if there was any way to do sort of a dialback trick in the extensions.conf. I call into the system from my cell phone (maybe via DISA), I dial an internal extension, and dial a phone number. Then * sends to my cellphone the number dialed thus giving me a in call on the cell. Or maybe have a call back with a DISA and then just dial my phone number I...

better way to trick data frame structure?
...the data frame to ensure that 2 levels are present, but this is slowing processing time in a loop quite a bit. Can I manually specify that this factor variable has two levels (even though this is lying to R)? xinetd, what's the trick?
...root wait = no server = /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd } But it doesn't work, i.e., my samba server doesn't show up in Network Neighborhood. , *but* if I start samba with: /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -D voila! So, what's the trick to use xinetd? BTW: I *know* xinetd is running, I'm using telnet, swat, vnc, etc. that way. TIA, Norberto

Snom 360 Hinting tricks
...ension light to light up continuously, regardless of state. Frustrating! Going back to my working dialplans where I got 1 or 2 lights working fine, I saw the pattern and the difference between working and non-working, and I realized that other people were experiencing the same problem as I was. The trick is the *order* in which you put your hint priorities in your dialplan. My non-working sidecar dialplan had all the hint priorities grouped together: exten => 12345,hint,SIP/12345 exten => 12346,hint,SIP/12346 Which would register the hint, but it wouldn't work on the Snom. The way to ma...

Samba 3.0.2 PDC, reinstallted box fails to rejoin domain
...n :3.0.2 (Debian Woody) Kernel Verion :2.4.27 I had to reinstall a Windows XP-Professional-Box at work. When I got to the point where you add the box to the domain, it wouldn't let me to. (I also disabled the settings in secpol.msc) I deleted the entry in smbpasswd using smbpasswd -x -m trick$, added it new and still the same problem. (The UID are right) Out of curiousity to track the error down I went to a different box and took it out of the domain, to see if this one would still be able to readd it . Well it didn't work. :( I hope you guys see what is wrong. I didn't do bi...

Is there a neat R trick for this?
...position in y 3rd element of z is NA, because the 3rd element of x is not in y Of course I can write the function findIndexIn() using a for loop, but in 80% of cases when I felt the urge to use "for" in R it turned out that there was already some builtin operator or function that did the trick. Suggestions, anyone? Thanks, robert

[PATCH 2/2] v2v: linux: try to trick vmware-uninstall-tools.pl
...ase of ramdisks will do the reverse job done during the installation (which is done again when new kernels are installed). OTOH, virt-v2v already rebuilds the initramdisk of the default kernel, not touching the other available kernels (no matter whether they have the right modules or not). Hence, trick the answers "database" of the VMware tools to discard all the information about ramdisks to restore on uninstallation: this way they are not rebuilt, and the whole uninstallation time will be reasonable enough (a couple of minutes or so). --- v2v/convert_linux.ml | 15 +++++++++++++++ 1...

Tips and tricks : create image file from CD/DVD?
Should the wiki have a Tips and Tricks page for creating a ISO file from a CD or DVD? I realize this information is everywhere. llvm optimizer turning musttail into tail
...;ve got some calls like: musttail call void bitcast (i32 (i32, i8*, %Type*)* @MyMethod to void (i32, i8*)*)(i32 %0, i8* %1) ret void Into something like: %8 = tail call i32 @MyMethod(i32 %0, i8* %1, %Type* null) ret void I realize I'm losing a parameter there, but this is an interface jump trick I use and relies on the end code being a 'jmp' (x86). I realize i can probably use noopt & noinline to do this trick, but I do want llvm to optimize and inline calls if it can prove it always calls a given method. Any way i can do this? -- Carlo Kok RemObjects Software

Building an array in a section from multiple object files
...> Just to close this out, I've updated http://reviews.llvm.org/D19904 to use > named ELF groups per-function, and have the runtime library use > __start_xray_instr_map and __stop_xray_instr_map as weak symbols from the > C++ side. In case you're not aware, the __start_/__stop_ trick isn't portable. You may want to look at compiler-rt/lib/profile/InstrProfilingPlatform*.c. There, we do the __start_ trick for linux and freebsd, a similar trick for darwin, and fall back to a static registration scheme elsewhere. > I've sent a patch to make creating these COMDAT/Group...

Stupid tricks: preventable?
I just experienced something I'd rather not experience again. Using a SPA-841 SIP phone connected to our Asterisk server, someone dialed their own extension, answered, and then transferred the call using the phone's "XFER" soft key. This does a SIP REFER. Now, the phone has dropped out of the loop, and Asterisk has connected the two call legs into a loop, as far as I can tell.

rsync over ssh - lockups with pipe()
...nd have written a small test program which demonstrates a deadlock in sshd when doing large bi-directional transfers. Luckily the problem is easily solved by modifying sshd to use socketpair() instead of pipe(). Just remove "#define USE_PIPES 1" from near the bottom of includes.h does the trick. The test program, along with instructions for use and an explanation of some of the pipe() bugs in various OSes that make this change necessary is available from ftp://samba.org/pub/tridge/misc/sshtest.c In past releases of rsync I added various buffering tricks in rsync which reduced the likely...

a^c(1:3)
Dear R, I have two small questions confused me recently. Now assume I have a matrix "a", like this, > a <- matrix(1:6, 2, 3) > a [,1] [,2] [,3] [1,] 1 3 5 [2,] 2 4 6 I sometimes need each row of "a" raised to a different exponent. So I do a trick like this, > a^c(2, 3) [,1] [,2] [,3] [1,] 1 9 25 [2,] 8 64 216 My first question is that if it is possible to do this trick column wise? Just out of curiosity, of course I know there are other ways of doing this. And the second question is why I get such result when I put...
