Loop problem
...all, I have a problem with a loop, if anyone has any knowledge on these things I would appreciate some comments. The code below is designed to allow me to extract the top record of the data frame, and them remove rows from the data frame which have an index close to the extracted top record. topstorm<-subset(rankeddataset[1,]) ## Extracts the top storm topstormindex<-rankeddataset[1,1] ## Finds the top storm start index startindex<-topstormindex-48 ## sets the start and end indexes endindex<-topstorminde+48 rankeddataset<-rankeddataset[-1,] ## Creates a new list with the top stor...

[PATCH] Handle MSI irq storm
<<handle_msi_irq_storm.patch>> Hi, Keir, This patch handles MSI irq storm. Unluckily, I have observed this phenomenon again. This will happen when some kind of MSI-X capable NIC is assigned to an HVM guest. The basic idea is to mask the interrupt on receiving the second interrupt and set a timer to unmask after 1m...

regression: msk0 watchdog timeout and interrupt storm
...B stick. FreeBSD 9.2-i386 works OK. So I tried to use FreeBSD 10.0-i386 BETA2 and the network adapter works for some 10-15 seconds and then stops with diagnostic message "msk0:watchdog timeout". I've found similar case at freebsd-current@ with no workaround. Yes, there is an interrupt storm as well. Here is some additional info: ----- mskc0 at pci0:3:0:0: class=0x020000 card=0xff501179 chip=0x435511ab rev=0x12 hdr=0x00 vendor = 'Marvell Technology Group Ltd.' device = '88E8040T PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller' class = network subclass...

Occasional storm of xcalls on segkmem_zio_free
So I have this dual 16-core Opteron Dell R715 with 128G of RAM attached to a SuperMicro disk enclosure with 45 2TB Toshiba SAS drives (via two LSI 9200 controllers and MPxIO) running OpenIndiana 151a4 and I''m occasionally seeing a storm of xcalls on one of the 32 VCPUs (>100000 xcalls a second). The machine is pretty much idle, only receiving a bunch of multicast video streams and dumping them to the drives (at a rate of ~40MB/s). At an interval of roughly 1-2 minutes I get a storm of xcalls that completely eat one of the CPUs,...

contour plot for non-linear models
Hello all, I've tried to reproduce the contour plot that appears in the book of Venables and Ripley, at page 255. Is a F-statistic surface and a confidence region for the regression parameters of a non-linear model. It uses the stormer data that are in the MASS package. I haven't been able to reproduce the plot either in R ( version 1.5 ) and S. It makes the axes and it puts the labels, but it doesn't shows the contour lines. Could you help me resolving this problem? This is the code that appears in the book and I&...

...Mapped a drive to the samba share (my home directory on samba) as Z: 2. Mapped "My Documents" to Z:, which is mapped to my home directory, defined in smb.conf as /home/$u 2. Did a "search for | files " from a Windows XP host. 3. Search started and then after a while, the SMB storm started. Network utilization jumped from <1% to >12%. 4. Using Ethereal, I collected 1 seconds of data, which yielded 2833 packets (all Samba related). 5. Windows was stuck searching on 1 large zipped file of html documents (file zie = 105 MB), at which time, the network utilization increas...

Interrupt storm with shared interrupt on digi(4)
I have an on-going problem with DigiBoard Xem boards causing interrupt storms (since 4.x days). The FreeBSD driver polls the board and doesn't have a functional interrupt handler (and Linux behaves in the same way). It seems that under some conditions, the board will assert its interrupt line and, since there's no interrupt handler to clear whatever triggered the...

Crazy "interrupt storm detected" on atapic0
...GB worth of web traffic per month for the main site and then some 40 domains with mail and small web pages. (hence - it's NOT that busy yet) I started with 7.1-RELEASE-pX since I didn't have problems straight off - but it didn't last long. After a few days of running, the interrupt storm on atapci0 starts to show. It slowly builds up and continues. When it reaches 150-200k/sec. I reboot just to be on the safe side. I have also upgraded to 7.1-STABLE to get all the ATA driver changes S.O.S. have been including. Still no visible change. To give you an impression of its impact, I...

[patch 2.4] Fix ext3 scheduling storm and lockup
This patch fixes an inefficiency and potential system lockup in the 2.4 kernel's ext3 filesystem. The problem has been present since 2.4.20-pre5. This patch is applicable to 2.4.20. A copy is at http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/patches/2.4/2.4.20/ext3-scheduling-storm.patch Anyone who is using tasks which have realtime scheduling policy on ext3 systems should apply this change. Details: At the start of do_get_write_access() we have this logic: repeat: lock_buffer(jh->bh); ... unlock_buffer(jh->bh); ... if (jh->j_list == BJ_Shadow) { s...

[PATCH 4/4] XSA-60 security hole: flush cache when vmentry back to UC guest
...UC guest This patch flush cache when vmentry back to UC guest, to prevent cache polluted by hypervisor access guest memory during UC mode. The elegant way to do this is, simply add wbinvd just before vmentry. However, currently wbinvd before vmentry will mysteriously trigger lapic timer interrupt storm, hung booting stage for 10s ~ 60s. We still didn''t dig out the root cause of interrupt storm, so currently this patch add flag indicating hypervisor access UC guest memory to prevent interrupt storm problem. Whenever the interrupt storm got root caused and fixed, the protection flag can be...

[PATCH 0/5] Add MSI support to XEN

But there do have some issues that we need your kind comments. 1> ACK-NEW method is necessary to avoid IRQ storm. But it causes the deadlock. During my tests, I do find there can be deadlock with patches applied. When assigned a NIC device to HVM domain, the scenario is: Dom0 is waiting to IDE interrupt (vector 0x21); HVM domain is waiting for qemu''s IDE emulation and thus blocked; NIC inte...
