Working with lists with numerical names
...with some data I imported from a baseball database. Several of the database columns have numbers in them (2B, 3B), and when I try to use these vectors from the data frame, I get syntax errors, probably because it's interpreting the name as a number: > show(batting2005) playerID yearID stint teamID lgID G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB 1 robleos01 2005 1 LAN NL 110 364 44 99 18 1 5 34 0 8 31 2 iguchta01 2005 1 CHA AL 135 511 74 142 25 6 15 71 15 5 47 3 molinya01 2005 1 SLN NL 114 385 36 97 15 1 8 49 2 3 23 . . ....

Accessing Android phones on CentOS 7
Hi, My standard Linux desktop is based on a personal blend of CentOS 7 with KDE 4.14 and various add-ons from third-party repositories like EPEL and Nux-Dextop. After a brief stint on OpenSUSE Leap 15.0, this is what I use on my workstation and on my laptop. And this is also what I install on my client's machines, just like I did in our local school's computer room. I'm currently busy sanding down a few remaining edges, and one thing that's left is accessing...

ugh, continued ldap madness, cont'd
After a brief stint offlist (thanks Bradley), I'm closer to getting SMB/LDAP working but now am encountering something very odd, which he suggested I bring back to the list for "further evaluation". :-) > $ smbclient //TESTBOX/testshare -U dballing > added interface ip=10.15.49.142 bcast=10.15....

Moving back to CentOS + question about documentation
Hi, I'm a 47-year-old Austrian living in South France, and the manager of a small IT firm based on Linux and free software. A while back I have been a CentOS user, I was proficient with versions 4.x and 5.x, and I even published a book based on CentOS 5.x. After a stint on Debian, I based all my server and desktop solutions on Slackware (http://www.microlinux.fr/slackware/), which was my very first Linux distribution back in 2001, and for which I have kept a fondness. Over the last few months, I was frustrated with Slackware, mainly due to the absence of PAM...

QueueMetrics 1.4 released today
...39;s page: an agent can log on, log off, go to pause and terminate pauses. - Call codes tracking: your agent can associate a call code to each incoming/outgoing call and QM will report on it. - Pause codes: an agent can mark WHY he goes on pause from the ACD, and QM will report on it. - Multi-stint calls: if a call has been handled by multiple queues, eg it has been passed to an overflow queue, it is now possible to track its progression ...plus over 50 other improvements, bugs fixed and little improvements - see the changelog file. In total, this release produces over 150 different...

New Puppet Labs Employee: Randall Hansen
...bs. He''s on IRC as ''soh'', and in his own words... I got hooked on human-computer interaction in 1986, writing Pascal programs to help dad navigate a Tandy 1000SX. I followed a twisty path through engineering school to get a degree in English and philosophy, then a fair stint as a sysadmin before going back to development and, finally, back to user experience. I''ve been Director of UX in Portland at OpenSourcery, an open source software consultancy, and AboutUs, one of the largest wikis. At Puppet Labs I hope to help us delight all our users, both at the CLI...

[LLVMdev] Reflexions about a new HDL language
If you're designing a new high-level HDL, then it would be a good idea to familiarise yourself with the state of the art in this area (e.g. Bluespec System Verilog, Symbolics Processor Designer, and similar tools). Starting from comparisons to VHDL and Verilog is like designing a new high-level programming language today that is designed to be a better high-level programming language that is

Building packages using RPMBUILD
I have been following the MaximumRPM guide from here: http://www.rpm.org/max-rpm-snapshot/index.html and it seems a bit dated, but still very good (if fact the best all round documentation I have found so far) on using RPM package manager, and how to build rpm packages. The guide tells me to use the original paths, yet Centos wiki says otherwise. [rpmbuilder at karsites sox]$ rpm -iv

[LLVMdev] Reflexions about a new HDL language
Hi, For the synthesis backend which translate to VHDL or Verilog, I don't know if I will use LLVM. It will depend on how easy it is to play with concurrent statements with LLVM. For the simulation I will use LLVM because I can anyways artificially make the compiled code sequencial. It would allow me to benefit from all the nice things from LLVM like existing optimisations. I have never

Return level plots
Hello, First of all, let me apologize that my statistics background is modest at best. I am doing some extreme value analysis on model output (WRF) which have the following dimensions: speed(time, lat, lon) I am trying to fit the GPD (gpd.fit) to each point (time, lat, lon) to get a return level plot with values at each grid point. (Map with return level by location.) Here is some code I

POST-only logic in protect_from_forgery considered harmful?
Hi folks, I am just getting into rails again after a multi-year stint of mod_perl jobs, which might grant me some newbie-indemnity for the time being - but I''ve found an issue I think warrants discussion. As discussed here - http://api.rubyonrails.org/classes/ActionController/RequestForgeryProtection/ClassMethods.html - the CSRF protection feature does not...

Mongrel/Apache and static content
I''m looking for an easy way to have mongrel only serve dynamic railscontent, while letting Apache serve non-Rails content. Unfortunately,it seems that you have to segregate the static content in its ownfolder. That was also the case with the SCGI runner. I used thetrick outlined athttp://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lang.ruby.rails/23347 to managethis. I was curious if a similar
