Status of OpenSSL 1.1 support
...e between packaging LibreSSL (and thus, in practice, ending up maintaining multiple SSL library versions, which is exactly what our security teams tend to want to keep to a minimum) or passing around samizdat versions of an enormous patch is not exactly ideal either. It's kind of an unedifying stalemate. https://mta.openssl.org/pipermail/openssl-users/2017-April/005540.html suggests that the OpenSSL folks want an external contributor to maintain such a layer. I've been trawling back through OpenSSL mailing lists and not found much else in the way of discussion about this, although of cour...

Drag and drop events. Or: How I learned to take over the world.
...may not be 100% possible to do everything I want with it. But that has not stopped me from trying thus far. The project: a javascript drag-n-drop chess game. The goal: Make a chess game that can track movements for players, make sure moves are valid, remove pieces on capture. I figure stalemate/checkmate calculations can be left to the players for now. What do I have done? Not a ton. I got stuck. Which is why I need you all. What is my problem(s)? Simply, events. I think I need to use a lot of event listeners to handle this well, but there does not appear to be a ton of d...

I haven't read the forum posts but I've read your mails to the admin list and considering that beryl folks haven't proved to be me most reasonable people before, I'm amazed what you have been able to make them agree to. Samba and mapping directories for software
...the utility to set the network paths, browse to the directory (/home/point/pntdata) have it all set, but when I click on OK, it does not save it. I've checked ownership, permissions, my smb.conf, everything I can think of, but it will not let me map the network path. So i've come to a stalemate in how to fix this issue and need everyones help here. I thought i'd throw a few things in here in hopes of getting a fix to this issue. smb.conf: [Point] comment = Point Program path = /home/point read only = no writable = yes browseable = yes create mode = 660 dire...

Asterisk 1.4.20.1 with bad gsm file playback
Hi All, I'm stumped on this and I looking for some clues to fix this. This is a new install of Slackware 12.1 onto an IBM x330 Server. Asterisk 1.4.20.1 plays the wav files and the Cepstral_Allison Swift just fine, but when I play the gsm files the audio quite choppy. And, the files produced from the MixMonitor don't even record any audio other than noise. I have a hard drive from

ssh hang on wrong port - is it a bug ?
Hi, ssh client program seems to hang when specified a wrong port no (port on which some other server, like telnetd is running). "netstat -an" shows the connection is established. I expect the ssh program to report invalid server msg and exit. Is this a bug or known behaviour ??? I have attached the -v -v -v output. Thanks, Hari [hari at linux ssh]$ /usr/bin/ssh -v -v -v -p 23 hari

Status of OpenSSL 1.1 support
Hi, more or less a year ago Kurt Roeckx provided an initial port towards the OpenSSL 1.1 API [0]. The patch has been left untouched [1] and it has been complained about a missing compat layer of the new vs the old API within the OpenSSL library [2]. This is how I reconstructed the situation as of today and I am not aware of any progress in regard to the newer library within the OpenSSH project.

Problem installing latest version of Wine to Ubuntu (8.10)
Hi, I am a nooby to Linux...I recently installed Ubuntu (8.10) to my PS3, in hopes of installing my Windows games (i.e. Steam, Call of Duty, etc.)...I've been researching linux applications that allow me to install Windows based applications, which is how I came across Wine... I followed the step by step procedures on how to install the latest version of Wine to Ubuntu 8.10 from

libogg2 branch->trunk (deadline: 5/30)
Ok guys and gals Monty assigned me as libogg2 maintainer a few weeks ago, with the provision that I get consensus on API changes from everyone. In order to facilitate discussion, and to "move on" vs letting this stalemate hold development at a stand still, I'm setting an initial deadline of this comming Monday, May 30th. If nobody has a strong objection why these API changes should not be made, noting fully that libogg2 is still *ALPHA* and only really used by py-ogg2 and my own development code in it...

Supporting a DIY UPS with minimal effort but maximum gain
...root cause of some issues, as far as I am aware). Those were issues entangled with semi-commercial project priorities (rush to market - pick the lowest hanging fruits, backlog the rest) so it was left on a backburner, awaiting a revival in upstream NUT. Another part was more technical, a sort of stalemate in design: many mapping tables in NUT involve data conversions (e.g. date formats, temperature units, integer milliVolts to floating-point Volts, text labels for numeric enum values, etc.) for data transfers from a device or writes back to it. In the current C codebase (*-mib.c, *-hid.c) there a...

Universal syntax for Markdown
Hi, because of the great editor "Writer" from Information Architects I've learned about Markdown and I love it. But it's very confusing, that there are so many standards with different features: classical Markdown, Markdown Extra, MultiMarkdown. I think for most users and the spreading of Markdown it would be nice, to have only one syntax. And this universal syntax should have

Supporting a DIY UPS with minimal effort but maximum gain
Hello, I found out about NUT just days ago while searching for a solution for my home setup. After some digging through the interwebs, I come to you with questions. I'm putting together a DIY 12V UPS, very similar to what this guy did: [1] https://baldpenguin.blogspot.com/2015/10/diy-12v-ups-for-home-network-equipment.html The objective is to keep a bunch of mini PCs and network gear
