mixed-effects model with two fixed effects: interaction
Dear all, In a greenhouse experiment we tested performance of 4 different species (B,H,P,R) under 3 different water levels in 10 replications. As response variable e.g. the number of emerging sprouts were measured on three dates. A simple Anova considering every measurement date separately shows a higly significant effect of species and moisture (and partly the interaction of both). The mixed-effects model with species and moisture shows a highly significant effect of species and moisture as we...

GPFS and Windows file attributes
I was reviewing the GPFS VFS module this afternoon after I had a request to add Thumbs.db to the hide files option. Now I was under the impression that the GPFS VFS module mapped this through to the Windows attributes on the under lying file system. That is assuming that your GPFS file system is sufficiently recent to support Windows attributes. I did some experimentations with a Terminal

DreamHost and "froo handler"
I just started using DreamHost, and http://rtest.openprofile.net is the first Rails site I put there. I read the information in their wiki about setup, since I hadn''t used Rails with Apache before, and dutifully added the recommended "froo handler" to dispatch.fcgi. Bad idea. I sprouted endless dispatch.fcgi processes, and had to kill off a handful every hour or two. I

openssh & XEmacs gnuclient issue
In switching to openssh from ssh-1.2.27, I have encountered the following problem with the way openssh handles its XAUTHORITY files separately from ~/.Xauthority. XEmacs has a gnuserv process that runs and allows commands to be issued to a remote XEmacs process. The trouble is when the command is to make a new frame ( window ) on a different X display, it fails because the Xauth cookie is not in

ltsp kernel crash
Hi, I've been using pxe-enabled nic's with an lzpxe-etherboot image generated by rom-o-matic.net to boot a ltsp.org kernel, with dhcp 3 to use if statements to determine which filename option he gives to the pxe/etherboot dhcp client.Explained at http://www.ltsp.org/documentation/pxe.howto.html This works perfectly, except for the fact that you can't use 1 etherboot pxe image for

It wasn?t a huge surprise. systemd was in Fedora since f15, and RHEL7 was branched from f18 (iirc). systemd was in the RHEL7.0 beta. The release announcement was filled with information about systemd.[1] Frankly, I was more surprised about XFS and 64-bit-only than systemd. I believe that RH...
