Rails Development on a Mac Mini?
How many people out there are doing Rails development on a Mac Mini? I''ve been eyeing up the MacBook as well as the new MacMini trying to decide if I want to splurge. I''ve been doing very little Rails development thus far which makes the investment a little hard to justify. The Free Mini Mac ( http://minimacs.freepay.com/?r=16778073) offer seems like the best route but

system suggestion
I''m looking over a couple of used systems that I can get for less than 150USD. I can''t seem to decide if I should splurge and get a 4x box for 25 dollars more than a 2x at a slightly higher clockspeed. 112952-001-B1-06 Proliant 6500 - 4xPIII Xeon500MHz/1MB, 256MB 100738-003-B1-06 Proliant 5500 - 2xPIIIXeon550MHz/512KB, 256MB Any suggestions? XP network breaks when shares are accessed by Fedora 19 smbclient
Hi. This is my first samba install. I have an XP box which connects to internet via dialup "DUN", is the base of the lan and provides InternetConnectionSharing to the lan. The XP lan base is 192.168.0.0 and the XP user "Owner" is on 192.168.0.1 and hostname is "WILLY". My Fedora 19 laptop on 192.168.0.148 with hostname "splurge.f19". I am having

Quirky Bug: "cat /dev/urandom"
If you execute cat /dev/urandom at the xm console of a guest domain, it will spew garbage forever. Attempts to run xm destroy on it simply hang. _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://lists.xensource.com/xen-users

centos 5.1 install , 3ware raid card...
Installing a new system using a 3ware card, raid 5 across 4 disks, partition, format went smothly and loaded the apps that I need, but for some reason it appears grub was not installed, or not completely. I am wanting to boot from the array, when installing grub on the loader it asks whether to install MBR on the first partition. Should I use the partition instead of the MBR? When I boot up in

SW-RAID on 2 SATA controllers
Hi, Would it be advisable to use SW-RAID using 2 different SATA controllers. My system happens to have both a VIA VT8237 and SIL3114 SATA controller, and I thought for both performance reason and redundancy using both for a 2 disk RAID1 array would be best. But it's possible that SW-RAID does not like or cannot overcome problems with such a setup or that one of these drivers is known to

ZFS Appliance as a general-purpose server question
A customer is looking to replace or augment their Sun Thumper with a ZFS appliance like 7320. However, the Thumper was used not only as a protocol storage server (home dirs, files, backups over NFS/CIFS/Rsync), but also as a general-purpose server with unpredictably-big-data programs running directly on it (such as corporate databases, Alfresco for intellectual document storage, etc.) in order to

SSD and ZFS
Hi all, just after sending a message to sunmanagers I realized that my question should rather have gone here. So sunmanagers please excus ethe double post: I have inherited a X4140 (8 SAS slots) and have just setup the system with Solaris 10 09. I first setup the system on a mirrored pool over the first two disks pool: rpool state: ONLINE scrub: none requested config: NAME

openssh 2.3.0p1-5 loses stdout
Hello all In a recent spate of paranoia we set our server (SuSE Linux 7.0, kernel 2.2.16) to use SSH version 2 and not SSH1. With openssh 2.3.0p1-5 running as client and server, we find that stdout output is occasionally dropped: ssh server echo "JJJ" usually emits JJJ, but sometimes returns nothing -- although the command is apparently performed. In the happy case the server logs

Goodbye for now, RoR
I started a php-based website a few months ago with a buddy of mine on netfirms.com. I was perusing their knowledge base and I came upon a quick-start for something called Ruby on Rails. Since then I have immersed myself in RoR. I''ve done the tutorials, I''ve purchased the books. But, I could never get even a sample RoR app to work on netfirms. 500 server errors.

TCP window based shaping
Does anyone have any pointers on how other people have implemented tcp window adjustment to do bandwidth shaping? Granted the basic idea is to set the window size to be RTT * bandwidth, but a quick squiz at google turns up mostly papers on how to implement this at the sender end with a view to some new magic TCP implementation. I''m really interested in notes on how to implement at

RFC: MCA/MCE concept
Hello! The current MCA/MCE support in Xen is that it dumps the error and panics. In the following concept I propose here, there are two places where Xen has to react on. I) Xen receives a MCE from the CPU and II) Xen receives Dom0 instructions via Hypercall The term "self-healing" below is used in the sense of using the most propriate technique(s) to handle an error such as MPR
