Samba shares will not set proper permissions.
I upgraded from my desktop from Mandrake 10.1 to Mandriva 2006 recently. It went pretty well, but I am having some issues connecting to samba shares on my Mandrake 10.1-based server. The shares worked fine under 10.1, but now I can't get them to mount with read-write permission. I'm assuming this is a problem related only to the mdrva 2006 client -- I haven't changed a thing on the

CentOS 7, systemd, NetworkMangler, oh, my
My manager tells me a system in the datacenter is down. I go down there, and plug in a monitor-on-a-stick and keyboard. It's up, but no network. I try systemctl restart NetworkManager several times, and ip a shows *no* change. Finally, I do an ifdown, followed by an ifup, and everything's wonderful. My manager thinks that the NM daemon thinks everything's fine, and there've been

New Matrix and lme4: Must reinstall lme4 if got new Matrix
We have released to CRAN a new version of the (recommended) package Matrix, and of package lme4 yesterday. Anyone who gets the new version of Matrix *MUST* re-install lme4 -- if (s)he is using lme4 at all. Technical details about that further below. The fact that yesterday's version number of Matrix is 0.9995875-2, indicates that Matrix' version is indeed approaching 1.0 (*), and

Hi there, I have a Problem starting MP3Tag 2.32a although the AppDB says there should be no problems. Re: Prey and OpenGL
Hello again. Since my last post about giving up on Prey I have had to change my graphics card. The cooling fan on my ATI packed up and it was a choice of a new fan/heatsink combination and having to nearly rebuild my pc to allow room for it (nearly the size of my card and over 1 inch thick !) or replacing the card. Since I thought that the fan problem might be the thin end of the wedge and I might

[Bridge] Problem with startup script
I put a bridging firewall together last winter (with some help) and have it= in production in front of a couple windows web and mail servers for going = on 6 months now. I used Fedora C1 with 2.4.22 kernel and 0.9.6 bridge-utils= . The bridge has solved a lot of security headaches. I use a modified start= up script written by David Whitmarsh that has worked really well. http://ww=

LDAP/PDC migration to Samba4
Greetings, All! I'm planning a migration to Samba 4 (for a long time, I admit, but I only recently got a promise of funds for a new server... whew...), but I'm a little in the dark on how to arrange whole process. Right now, the situation is imagined as follows: Server A: LDAP/PDC/Samba3/NAT/DHCP/BIND/everything else. Server B: New installation, x86_64, Samba4, would-be-replacement for

BizConf at Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island Resort, August 20-21
[Apologies for the slightly-off-topic posting.] BizConf is a one-of-a-kind event that I am hosting about 3 months from now here in northern Florida. It''s a 2-day conference specifically crafted for independent consultants and owners/managers of small to mid-sized web consultancies. Because of who I am and the audience I can reach, I expect the majority of the attendees to be involved

Switching to active_record_store session management errors out
Hello, Running Ruby 1.8.6 and Rails 2.2.2 against an Oracle XE database (sigh). I just upgraded Rails from 1.2.3 to 2.2.2, which made my cookie based system for storing session information to error out due to the 4Kb limit. So, I tried to turn on the active_record_store system by un- commenting out the "config.action_controller.session_store = :active_record_store" line in
