Soundblaster
Hi, I have the VIA chipset, and I'm trying to disable the sound and enable a soundblaster compatible card. Can you tell me what you did in /etc/modules.conf to enable your soundblaster card? Thanks, Mike

60-cycle hum ?? yep, probably a ground loop. http://www.xiph.org/archives/icecast/2703.html -----Original Message----- From: Scott Prive [mailto:Scott.Prive@storigen.com] Sent: Monday, May 20, 2002 10:04 AM To: icecast@xiph.org Cc: bikepunx@impop.bellatlantic.net Subject: RE: [icecast] soundblaster live noise <p>I don't know the answer, but here are suggestions to the limit of my knowledge: 1) Is your sound going in via Line In, or Mic In? 2) Do you get the noise when recording, using ANY software (just record a wav file with something)? If so, at least you know it's not a sof...

SoundBlaster Live
Folks, I last saw this problem in a thread in this newsgroup a couple of years ago, but there was no solution then. It was then stated that you couldn't get a SoundBlaster Live sound card to work under Wine because Windows 'ran' everything through the emu10k1.vxd file and Wine did not support vxd files. Is this still the case? Has anyone found a workaround yet? Pete

getting a Creative Soundblaster card to work
I just got a Creative Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Audio card for my notebook. The card is recognized automatically in Ubuntu, and in Preferences/Sound I set the default to ALC861VD Analog, which is the mixer. But the option doesn't come up under winecfg. And my application (Dragon NaturallySpeaking) doesn't see it. Any suggest...

SoundBlaster 16 removal impending
(Reply directly, as I''m not subscribed here.) As you may have seen, ARC recently approved my case to remove the ancient sbpro driver Solaris. I''m intent on doing that, because it really helps with our OSS integration effort, which I''m now leading. The problem is, will this impact qemu? I''m not sure of the answer. I *think* qemu emulates an older ESS1370

CentOS 3.8 and ESS ES1878 sound chip?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I can't seem to be able to get any sound out of my CentOS 3.8 laptop. I have the ESS ES1878 chip in it. It can work in either native mode, or in SoundBlaster compatible mode. Neither is detected by CentOS 3.8. I've looked at the directory with kernel drivers, and there doesn't seem to be any kernel module that smells like either ES1878 or SoundBlaster. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (MingW32) iD8DBQFFNvoJSuSa4NZgqj8RAuKkAJ...

Getting lowest latency sound?
...tc/security/limits.conf' So as I understand it, rtprio is the correct #, nice is the lowest possible, and I memlocked half my RAM. In winecfg, I have audio set to 48000 default sample rate. I have an internal hda-intel soundcard (bad but better since alsa upgraded to 1.0.18). I also have a SoundBlaster X-Fi that doesn't work yet, but I'm waiting with my fingers crossed, since SoundBlaster open-sourced some of the code this month. Any fairly simple suggestions? How about a chrt command? Thanks. Susan

Strange soundcard problem w/4.2
...boot time and shows up in the system log, but when I try to actually use the sound card within Gnome, there's no sound. The device is detected, but there's no sound. So I figured this may be an "oddball" chipset, so I disabled the onboard sound device and installed a vanilla Soundblaster Live! card. Again, the card seems to be detected by the kernel at boot time, but there's no sound and the soundcard detection utility reports "no sound card detected." Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since my daughter is now camped at my expensive laptop so she can...

Sound Problems
I have a Creative Audigy SE configured whit the module CA106 The problem is to make the mixer work. It seems that Wine looks for PCM Playback Volume that is common to many cards, but not mine. My card channels for Playback are IEC958, IEC958 C, IEC958 F, IEC958 R, Analog C, Analog F, Analog R and Analog S. What am I missing? Thanks.

stream sounds like poo for no apparent reason
here at wkdu.org our minds are blown trying to figure out what our problem is, we are using a dell optiplex gx1 with a soundblaster live card. we are getting a nasty hum on the line in. the thing is we plug a cd player directly into the soundcard the hum goes away and when we plug the line in into anything else there is no hum, so the question i ask where is the hum coming from? we are completely boggled. we are using t...

MP3 decoding, fading and streaming at the same time
Hi There, I have just ported to Linux a program that I wrote years ago in Prolog under DOS to automate our Shortwave radio station. Back in 1990 the original program used ADPCM coded audio files and a special board. Now I can use MP3 files and a Soundblaster compatible card ;-) under Linux, and it runs from a console without any fancy interface. I absolutely need to fade-in and fade-out audio, and now I use the mixer capability of the SoundBlaster, so a simple MP3 file scheduler is not enough for me. I am now trying to feed the output of this progr...

wine and Monkey Island 4
Hi, today I wanted to start Monkey Island 4 with wine. I'am using cvs version of wine from today (04.Feb.2001), I also patched the transgaming directx patch into it. My system: SuSE 7.0 with KDE2.1beta2, GeForce 2MX with 0.96 NVidia drivers, Soundblaster PCI 128 (ES1371) with Kernel drivers. I use wine with installed Windows. My startup command is: wine "c:\Monkey4\Monkey.exe" --debugmsg +relay,+text,+string --dll commdlg,comdlg32,commctrl,comctl32,shell,shell32=n,shfolder=n,shlwapi --desktop 640x480 -- -gl &>wine.log (with d...

snom soft phone
Some of you might already know that we are releasing a new phone, snom 360. To make the phone well-known and stable, we have made a soft phone version out of it and offer it for trial or private use for free (for more details, see the license conditions). There are only few limitations to the phone. First of all, the audio subsystem will work only work with an acceptable quality if you are using

Darkice memory leak
ups, sorry for fuzzy description. I use "top" to watch the running processes. It updates every 5 seconds. I am running RedHat 7.2, download from one of Redhats mirros. Haven't installed any updates of Redhat 7.2. The box is a fresh PC with Amd Athlon 1700XP, 128MB, two SoundBlaster 16 PCI using OSS drivers. Any info missing? four wildcards in a single pc
...ur cards in a machine before. I had a firewall with eight network interfaces (one quad card, one duo and two singles) I have machines with two dialogic boards, a pci display card, and a network interface. And I know I've had machines at home that had a display adaptor, modem, network, scsi, and soundblaster all together. Yet, people claim it won't work because of lack of IRQs, and that it's not related to Digium. What am I missing? Shoval Tomer, IT Manager, SofTov Advanced Systems, Ltd.
