Need to "net use \\someserver\someshare" to increase speed?
All, We've been testing to determine why SAMBA access to UNIX clearcase VOBs became slow when we upgraded from 2.2.8a to 3.0.14 (and now 3.0.24). I cannot say we've found 'anything new' but we have found the following behavior. Any help understanding why a WinXP and Win2K client would need the shares to VOB storage mapped to speed processing would be appreciated (note that it

ACL's vs Share definitions (Trying again)
I have the Win2000 client(s) in a Samba domain. Domain authentication works fine, my "homes" share works fine, remote profiles work fine. Using 3.0.1Pre1 I would like to add people to "someshare" through the Security tab, and control their access through windows ACL's. How should I setup a share as a basis for doing this? The share below (someshare) in this email doesn't work. Although I get no error when adding another user to the share through the security tab in windo...

vfs_shadow_copy2 with snapprefix & delimiter options in samba 4.6.2
Hello Dear Samba Users, I have sucessfully set a samba share on a centos 7 box (samba 4.6.2) and succeeded into make work snapshots (vfs_shadow_copy2 with xfs and lvm). The snapshots appears well in windows previous versions. However, I expected to go further with snapshots and use the options "shadow:snapprefix" and "shadow:delimiter"in order to filter daily, weekly

Cannot authenticate new ldap users (unless they are in /etc/passwd too)

different mask for directory inside another share
Hello, let's assume we have: [$someshare] path = /some/path create mask = 0644 directory mask = 0755 Within /some/path there's directory named dir1 for example (/some/path/dir1). Is it possible to define alternative masks for that particular directory without presenting it as a different share. My second question - is it possible to...

Samba conf. problem - NetBIOS problem?
..., but it IS checked. MS Client and File/Print sharing were still installed, and both were bound to TCP/IP, which was bound to the NIC. However, once I removed NetBEUI and rebooted, I could no longer see any computers under Network Neighborhood. When I tried to do a "NET USE * \\somemachine\someshare" in DOS, it gave me this error: "You must log on before performing this operation." Now the Win95 login box DOES still pop up when I boot the computer, and I'm still using "Client For MS Networks" as my Primary Network Logon. Yet my local file/print sharing connection...

question about smbmount as user
...m, that's why I ask here. Samba version 3.2.4 mount.cifs version 1.11-3.2.4 When mounting a share as a normal user, the mountpoint has to be owned by the user and needs to have at least u=rwx. This means I can no longer set the mountpoint like so: d--------- 2 root root 4096 Oct 23 14:58 someshare After modifying line 1255 of mount.cifs.c >>> if((statbuf.st_uid == getuid()) && (S_IRWXU == (statbuf.st_mode & S_IRWXU))) { <<< into >>> if(1) { <<<, I get what I think I want. A user can mount that share and the directory mode allows accessing t...

username map with “security = ads”
Not tested, just brain farts ;-) Setup a member, Allow guest access. ( in global : guest ok = yes ) This allow local users to access the server ( not shares ) On the shares Deny "domain users" and/or authenticated users. Allow the local group for local users. Not tested but technicaly is could work. Which is almost the same as a standalone with and without user authentication.
