R code for "Statistical Models in S" ?
...monly known as the "white book", and realized to my dismay that most of the code is not directly executable in R, and I was wondering if there was a source discussing the things that are different and what the new ways of calling things are. For instance, the first obstacle was the solder.balance data set. I found a "solder" data set in rpart, which is very close to it except for the fact that the Panel variable is not a factor, but that's easily fixed. The first problem is the next two calls, on pages 2 and 3. One is "plot(solder.balance)", which is...

OT: hardware, IBM 3650 M2 won't power on
...Look for ones with the tops pushed up instead of being flat. This can cause all sorts of odd behavior. Often the machine with a blown capacitor will continue to run till it is powered off. Mostly I see this on Dell machines but have seen it on other machines as well. They are pretty easy to unsolder and replace. There are lots of pictures of failed electrolytic capacitors on the web. You can get decent capacitors cheap on Amazon. I understand the problem when the powers that be will not allow you to spend money. Now I work in a lab and have nice soldering equipment available and can get aw...

Adit 600 and echo
I'm having issues with echo. My setup is Polycom IP501 phones connected to an Adit 600 via T100P. 13 Lines going to the Adit. All echo so far is on the local side (Employees hears own voice, but only on some calls). Watching the channel with ztmonitor, I notice that TXGAIN is pegged out most of the time. RXGAIN is anywhere between 45 and 60%. Is it safe to assume that playing around

Primary VGA Passthrough Status
Hi All- Is it possible yet to pass through a ATI or Nvidia GPU as the primary VGA card to a Win 7/8 VM, and have it fully functional there (DXVA etc), without crashing the guest or the host during operation or when resetting the guest? For hardware I have an E3 v2 Xeon, Tyan S5512 board, and an ATI 7750. Thanks! David _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

Cache Problems!!!!!
...collects information about hardware that he/she would like to produce. This information is used to build a path to the directory that contains the files to load into one of the production machines. For example, through the use of menus and such the user indicates that they would like to run a Laser Solder job on a F22 MLD board named xyz. Based upon this information, my application goes to a directory called "p:\ois-data\laser\F22 MLD XYZ" and looks for files that support paste and laser solder operations. This access is handled through a read-only public share. Pretty simple stuff. All th...

Digium Cards in Boxes without Power Connectors
I noticed on the wiki that some of the production hardware (compaq) doesnt have a power connector to my knowledge. I have a compaq c6400 that I would like to use for Asterisk. However all the drives are hot swap and the dual redundant power supply bay are not something i really feel like soldering wiring to. How are people getting around this? Is there a magic 'fan card' that has a power out that people are using? Thanks

Opti-UPS Value Series 575C
...gt; Click on the big banner when it turns up (turns out I can't like to it directly, probably needs some cookie for the language selection -.-) It came with some "Sentinel" software for Windows. Calling the optiups driver with -h revealed something about a custom cable - before I go soldering, anyone knows what the odds are of this working with this UPS? Before I discovered the help output I also tried all other serial drivers, without any success. Also, what does the red color mean in the compability table? Anything that's not supported, or is it just "you have to solder...

OT: hardware, IBM 3650 M2 won't power on
...p. Well, it never stops flashing at 4x/sec. I've connected a network cable, wondering if it's in wake-on-lan; I've tried connecting to it via its management port, and *zip*. I'm not going to do, as several folks' posts that I googled (been at that for hours), cut the cable and solder in an on/off switch. I have taken the lid uff, reseated the PSUs, and the cable connecting to the front panel, and nada. Anyone got any ideas? mark

HDD badblocks
...he gold layer on edge connectors 30-odd years ago was a lot thicker than on modern cards. We are talking contacts on 0.1" spacing not some modern 1/10 of a knat's whisker. (Off topic) I also remember seeing engineers determine which memory chip was at fault and replacing the chip using a soldering iron. Try that on a DIMM! Anyone had any luck with SIP clients on the iPhone platform?
...ssue with the clients themselves. Both clients allow you to register and make calls via SIP with any abitrary provider and credentials, so they'll work with Asterisk. I've tried them with two good providers and one has unrecognizable audio and the other has noises as if the cable was badly soldered. I've never experienced such troubles with "regular" SIP clients. Anyone have any recommendations? Thanks /r

Temperature sensor
Does anyone know of a cheap temperature sensor that will work with Linux? I don't need a fancy monitoring appliance, I just want a simple sensor that I can connect to one of my monitoring servers to let me know if the server room is getting hot. -- Bowie

kde failing???
...ff by ~2 min, reset via 'service manager' by stopping ntpd, count 20, started ntpd, within a few seconds, clock reset to correct time. ~1 hour later, noticed clock off again, considered cause to be cmos battery failing. after removing ~30 screws and bottom cover, found that cmos batter was soldered to board. checked with dvom, voltage read 3.2v with main battery and charger removed. ran web search on tower box to find that cmos battery is a rechargeable 3.0 v battery and being that removing screws and cover took several minutes, with battery being up, cause must be elsewhere. note - notic...

Server hangs on CentOS 5.5
Hi -- I'm running a server which is usually stable, but every once in a while it hangs. The server is used as a file store using NFS and to run VMware machines. I don't see anything in /var/log/messages or elsewhere to indicate any problem or offer any clue why the system was hung. Any suggestions where I might look for a clue? -- Michael Eager eager at eagercon.com 1960 Park Blvd.,

I'd like to eventually support network console, at least in pxelinux.
...boot Ethernet console. I'm finding it hard to get new equipment with serial ports. Gateway, desktop, has the chip on the motherboard but removed the internal and external connectors . This is the same for my laptop. I know that the motherboard has a uart but I can't get to it with out a soldering iron. Thank you for your time and a great product, Nicholas A.
