Clarification
...pdates available? Are the files coming from the RH update site the same as would be avaliable via yum? Sorry if this is a newbie question, but while the machine is down waiting on the new mobo, I figured I could do a little brushing up on things I don't fully understand. Thanks.. -- Snowman

Evolution
...oblem. Altho I don't particularly use Evolution as a mail agent, there are times when I might use it, but its worthless without being able to send mail out to my server. Did I miss something in the options or setup or is there no provisions for changing the smtp port to another port? -- Snowman

repositories
...s reminded last night that the repository for CentOS 4.1 had been moved to "vault" .whatever .. Is that correct? What should I have in the /etc/yum.repos.d/CentOS-Base.repo ? For future reference, is there a document that gets updated when the base repository changes? Thanks.. -- Snowman

Xhosts file
...turns up nothing, and did not find any info in any of the man pages, other than it would reside in /etc, but doesn't. Setting a host access permission does not become permanent, and I'd really like to find out where the thing should be so I can solve that little irritant. Thanks.. -- Snowman

Sensors-applet-0.2.2
...rom what I read on a web page about it, and the screenshots, there should be something to configure the values. Heck, I can't even find the file now that its installed.. how does one go about getting the applet up and running? This is the x86-64 version if that matters..... Thanks... -- Snowman

Netcdf
Can anyone tell me if there exists an rpm for netcdf-3.6.0-p1 for Centos x86-64? Also, are there any details of what was used to compile it, i.e., ifort, pgf, g77, etc. I'm looking for a version compiled with ifort... Sam -- Snowman

PAM account failure, funny ssh error
Hey all, I'm getting a weird error from sshd: Feb 16 11:32:49 syslog at snowman sshd[28740]: fatal: monitor_read: unsupported request: 32 I'm running sshd with Simon's GSSAPI patch but I don't think that's the problem. The issue appears to be with how ssh reacts to a failure in the PAM account section. As in, when the PAM account modules return a failure, I...

Radio software
...something about some software being available for the BT chipset, but I'm a tad out of date on that. Also, while in my thoughts, who is the individual responsible for the screensaver(s) creation? I have a fantastic idea I'd love to pass to whoever does the coding. Thanks, -- Snowman

Incompatible Libraries
...and so forth and so on. I've got the correct paths set in the makefiles, but not sure I understand why the libs are being shown as incompatible. If any of you have built ncarg on the x86-64 OS, I'd sure like to hear from you, and what you did to effect the compile. Thanks.. Sam -- Snowman

Raid with one disk?
...'ve got a single SATA drive in the machine not doing anything. It's a 10k maxtor 74G drive, and what I really want is just to backup two home partitions. I can always reinstall the OS, but the data can't be recovered that easily. The mobo supports raid-0,1 and jbod. ...t break a bunch of stuff to install both packages on a 4.1-i386 system ? Also looked via yum, at Dag's repository, and mirrors, but nothing shows up for it. I'm still new enough to CentOS to not know where and what I can install from other versions without breaking things... Sam -- Snowman

Problem with GET args and UTF-8 encoding (output of Rack::Utils.unescape() ?)

Something obvious is eluding me...): "Ad\u{E9}la\u{EF}de de Hongrie To be clear, this is not a form, but an ajax query. I''ve tried adding the ''utf8'' snowman thing manually too, but that doesn''t seem to do anything...of course, maybe I''m doing that wrong. Any thoughts/questions/pointing out of obvious errors or confused ways of thinking? I''d also appreciate any pointers to Rails documentation which describes in more detail h...

Install from CD bug
...mps right open when I manually clicked on the mysql package in the rpm list, so I know that part is working. Any way to debug this problem, as there are times when I'd like to be able to install straight from the CD vs. a yum install (like when Dag's repo is down as it is now) Sam -- Snowman

ATI not supporting dpms
...machine does absolutely nothing I ever intended for it to do, and probably will never fall into the role of a M$ server of any sort. Chalk one up for the good guys! To reduce the number of trips or exchanges back and forth to get it corrected (if that is possible) the software still does not work.
