Difficulties with samba and ADS
Hello.
I thought I had this fixed 3 times now... but it keeps coming up. I have 2
smbservers that are part of an ADS domain (windows 2003 server).
I have my samba servers set up, and it works great for a month or so, then it
starts giving smbmount and smbclient a hard time. This is very bad news
because I rely upon smbmount heavily.
When I try to view the shares my main server, and u...

I have also tried various other options that all end with the same error, I
search the web for a solution and found plenty of people asking a silimar

Problem with "password server" setup. What is *SMBSERVER?
...passwords.
We do have multiple BDC's, but the issue does not seem to be that the
password has not been updated on the PDC yet. When I watch (with tcpdump
with the samba patches) everything looks OK until SMB_COM_TRANSACTION
(SMB command 0x25). In the data of the request I see the userid and
*SMBSERVER. For a user that doesn't experience this problem *SMBSERVER
is replaced with the Solaris box's name.
Can anyone give me an idea of what else I should look at to figure this
problem out?
Thanks

*SMBSERVER name query to Samba server
...urrent code works fine with an NT server
and OS/2 Warp Server for e-business server running the Browser
service. The client gets a positive response for a query for DOMAIN
name with 0x1C name type and then the client does a node/adapter
status to determine the server name. The node status uses the
*SMBSERVER as the target name. Again, this works to an NT
and OS/2 server.
When I try the operation to a Samba server, the DOMAIN 0x1C
name query gets a positive response though the node status
using the *SMBSERVER target name times out. I searched through
nmbd source to see if it listens for the special nam...

append to path from login script?
I'm wondering if there is a way to add a network share (either UNC or
mapped drive) to the path of a user when they login?
for example have a directory \\smbserver\apps and put putty.exe in
there.. so that when I sit down at a machine I will always have putty in
the path..
Is that possible?

Found some more info:
mount.cifs to mount shares from my DCs (samba 4.2.11) works
mount.cifs to mount shares from smbserver (also 4.2.11) does NOT work.

session request to *SMBSERVER failed
I am having a problem with samba on a Sun Ultra running Solaris 2.6. I got the error:
--
session request to WWW20 failed
session request to *SMBSERVER failed
--
This happened after a reboot, samba was running perfect before. The smb.conf is fine, it was tested on another server and worked. Netstat -a shows that it is listening on port 139.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Samba v3 works with LDAP, but not Samba v4
...o!
We have Samba v3 (3.5.10) working against an LDAP server, and need to
upgrade to Samba v4 (4.7.1), RHEL 7 supports only v4. Tried multiple
configs of the smb.conf (including the old config) without success. Cleaned
up smb.conf is below. Also, included is the output of a smbclient command
on the SMBServer with debug option 10. Hoping that someone can point me in
the right direction.
Thanks

dns.keytab for Samba4 and Bind9
Hi,
When provisioning a new domain, samba4
creates /usr/local/samba/private/dns.keytab. What's the best way to
create that file manually, when not provisioning a new domain?
My use case is how one migrates from a Windows AD+DNS to samba4+bind9. I
begin by joining a new samba4 instance as a DC to an existing Windows
domain (so no "/source4/setup/provision"), then getting rid of the

using smbclient without netbios names
...them by typing the IP in)
I am using smbclient like so:
/usr/bin/smbclient "//130.15.210.185/" -U "craig" -L "130.15.210.185"
session request to 130.15.210.185 failed (Called name not present)
session request to 130 failed (Called name not present)
session request to *SMBSERVER failed (Called name not present)
now the interesting thing is that that command works fine connecting to a
different computer, which is running windows 2000 instead of windows 9x:
/usr/bin/smbclient "//130.15.211.25/" -U "craig" -L "130.15.211.25"
