After removing the share permissions group Everyone (changing it to
something more secure) we are? unable to modify Security permissions. No
users/groups have read permissions. Cannot take ownership or change perms.
For example, using the share in the smb.conf below-
/0data/smb_shares/test05/ - located on the Samba server \\proto1
This is will be similar to the final configuration. All shares located

In Ubuntu we create the directory, adjust permissions and ownership and

Recipe/advice for Samba 4.11 on Ubuntu 20.04 as member server joining Windows Server 2019 AD
Hi,
Brand new VM's running on ESXi replacing existing Samba 3 NT domain.
I am not quite brand new but this is my first time for this combination.
Would like to use Win Ad for authentication and Samba for 20 users and
company shared data.
Started with this how-to:

smbmount - what permissions? (again)
...on a SAN
(Storage Area Network), the front end server of this SAN is
an NT server. What I plan to do is to "smbmount" the home
dir of the linux accounts from a SMB share on the SAN.
Untill now smbmount doesn't work for non root user.
Error message is :
cannot mount on /mnt/smb_share: Operation not permitted
smbmnt failed: 1
mount.smbfs: ioctl failed, res=-1
Could not umount /mnt/smb_share: Invalid argument
smbmount, smbmnt have SUID bit
What permission is missing ?
Any help
Thanks

linux group quota does not work as expected with 3.0.21a
Hi, all!
I use samba 3.0.21a on Debian Sarge with 2.4.32 kernel as member of Active Directory domain.
I set following config:

valid users = @ISCMPD
write list = @ISCMPD
force group = qiscmpd

qiscmpd - is a linux group manually added for quotas:

Thanks!

I am using samba 4.10.7 and it seems to have bug for using @group in valid

write list = "admin" "@Administrator_Group" "@User_Group" "root"

VFS ACL modules - question to developers
Hi!
I have few question to developers of VFS ACL modules (acl_tdb and acl_xattr):
1. Do you plan to extend quantity of entries in acl_tdb (now I can write 22 user ACLs plus CREATOR OWNER, CREATOR GROUP, domain users and everyone)
2. Do you plan to fix few ACLs eg. Traverse folder / Execute file (to traverse I need to enable additional permission List folder / read data to traverse through

recreate/re-provision DNS db from scratch?
Hi,
Is there a way to re-initialize/re-provision DNS?
I have a working domain with 100+ users and computers etc.. I want to
preserve all those users, settings and group policies etc, only start the
DNS part from scratch.
Why? I've been having some (mysterious) issues with Samba 4 DNS since..
well.. I suppose since I started with 4.0.6 (migrated from Samba 3.x) but
from a users' point of
