control the conversion of factor to numeric
...o convert a data.frame with several factor-variables to a numeric matrix. Now the problem is, that the order of the factor-labels don't match the order I would like to use. for example, let's assume I have this factor-variable in my data-frame: x <- factor(rep(1:4, 5), labels=c("slightly disagree", "disagree", "agree", "slightly agree")) Now I would like to convert this to a numeric vector so that disagree == 1, slightly disagree == 2, slightly agree == 3, and agree gets the value 4. but as.numeric(x) just converts the factor levels to numerical...

Clicking Problems with slightly clipped audio
It appears that both the echo canceller and the noise reducer (NR) introduce rather severe clicking artifacts when presented with audio that has slightly overloaded the A/D converters. I am talking about speech that sounds just slightly distorted, due to clipping, when simply played back. If I pass that speech through the echo canceller or the noise reducer, it acquires really loud clicks and/or scratchiness in high amplitude sections. Granted,...

[Slightly OT] MS MVC taking slight hints from Merb
http://www.hanselman.com/blog/ScottGuMVCPresentationAndScottHaScreencastFromALTNETConference.aspx In Scott Guthrie''s talk (about 43:30) he mentions requiring the render call as a convention. Interesting to see Merb influence Microsoft. :) -- Cheers, Kevin Williams http://kevwil.com/ http://www.almostserio.us/ http://kevwil.jaiku.com/

How can I slightly offset plots?
Dear R help contributers, I have several x,y scatter plots and I would like to plot them slightly offset, similar to: http://www.mathworks.com/matlabcentral/fx_files/24368/2/content/style4.jpg I've looked all over for this answer with no luck. Just a function name or previous example would probably be enough for me to figure it out. Thank-you in advance, Carly

Netbios over ipsec (slightly ot)
Hi, This issue might be a slightly offtopic, but someone might have experience with it. Thanks for reading this post anyway. I have the following setup: Network 10.227.7.X is connected over a wlan (172.1.1.1 <-> 172.1.1.2) to network 128.1.1.X. This setup works, I have cross-subnet browsing going and I am able to login. Slightly OT: Anyone got a PXE bootable HDD low level format tool?
Slightly off topic, but does anyone have a utility for low level formating Maxtor ATA hard disks that can be booted from PXELinux (either as some kind of binary or as a floppy image)? I just went to get the official tools, but they only have a floppy creator (which won't help me in Linux, or without...

slight echo via sip provider
When we make calls out of asterisk to the PSTN via a SIP termination service provider the called party gets a slight echo of their voice. Here is the setup; analog phone <> Linksys ata <> asterisk <> sip provider sonus GSX 9000 <> PSTN <> called party. The caller on the analog phone connected to the ATA hears no echo at all. The called party has a slight

hclust and heatmap - slightly different dendrograms?
Good afternoon, I ran heatmap and hclust on the same matrix x (strictly, I ran heatmap(x), and hclust(dist(t(x))), and realized that the two dendrograms were slightly different, in that the left-right arrangement of one pair of subclusters (columns) was reversed in the two functions (but all individual columns were grouped correctly). Looking through the code for heatmap as a most definite nonexpert, it seems to me that hclust is also invoked by heatmap. >...

Slightly OT: 3ware cards
Slightly OT, but this looks like a good place to find a lot of disk controller experience. Since I need to swap out some dodgy hardware anyway, I am thinking about upgrading to one of the 4 port 3ware IDE RAID cards. It will only be in a 2 disk mirror config, however, I am hoping that it will give a nice...

How to bring dovecot to using a slightly modified passwd file
Hello all, I am trying to use a setup where domains have separate passwd files with a slightly different layout. Is there a way to tell dovecot that a passwd file contains everything it looks for but on different positions inside the passwd file line? Standard passwd: USERNAME:PASSWD:UID:GID:HOME:extras different layout: USERNAME:PASSWD:extras:UID:GID:HOME Or do I have to patch the sour...

Authenticate Postfix through Dovecot with slightly different LDAP settings
Hi, I'm setting up a server with Dovecot (2.2.2) and Postfix (3.1.0). Dovecot authenticates against LDAP and Postfix uses Dovecots SASL. That already works fine. But I would like to have slightly different LDAP settings for Dovecot and Postfix. Current setup: passdb { driver = ldap args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-ldap.conf.ext } userdb { driver = ldap args = /etc/dovecot/dovecot-ldap.conf.ext } Excerpt from dovecot-ldap.conf.ext: user_filter = (& \ (objectClass=gosaMailAccoun...

I could reduce the cex.lab value, but it's not something I want to do. I have tried tweaking the widths parameter for both tiff() and layout(), but without success. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance for your he...

Slightly OT? - How do I set up Win98 to access a printer on my CentOS box?
...my CentOS 5.1 host and it can access the CentOS printer(s) just fine. However, I also have a Win98 box on the LAN that I would like to be able to print on the CentOS printer. When I try to connect to the printer, Win98 tells me that it can't find the network...? Any suggestions? (This "slightly" really is - it _is_ directly related to CentOS, unlike my previous FC8 post....) Thanks. mhr

slightly OT - gphpedit on CentOS 5?
Hi all, Advance apologies for being slightly OT. Has anyone had successes with installing gphpedit on CentOS 5? There don't seem to be any rpms avail for our distro and I'm far too new to roll my own. Thanks in advance (off - list replies are welcome if that's more appropriate) -Ray
