Server-side printer settings?
Hi all!
I have a situtation that I want to get happening:
We have just installed a colour photocopier with duplexing at a client's
office. We're looking to have four printers pointing at this one device,
with the following settings (one for each printer):
* Black and White
* Black and White, Duplexed
* Colour
* Colour Duplexed
My question is, can we have server-side settings for

"Additional Drivers" and Print Window Refresh
I have RTFM'd, so excuse me if I missed something in the manual. :)
1) When I attempt to add additional drivers (the inital driver worked just
fine, when using the instructions in John's HOWTO), I get the following
error:
"The printer driver you selected is either not compatible with your
current version of Windows, or it may not be available. Select a

Letter instead of A4 with driver installed via Samba's Point'n'Print
...t Samba. According (hopefully) to these howtos I have setup printers and prepared their cups postscript drivers to be installed automatically via Samba and the so called Point'n'Print method:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-456501-highlight-.html
http://www.linuxprinting.org/kpfeifle/SambaPrintHOWTO/Samba-HOWTO-Collection-3.0-PrintingChapter-11th-draft.html
Everything works pretty well except that a new windows client that installs the driver tries to print out as Letter instead of A4. I can then change this setting and it is correctly saved, but only on this particular client. Is there a way...

Why I can't set some default printer options for my HP 1015 + CUPS printer ??
Hi, Everyone!
I've installed samba + print$ driver + cups successfully on my Debian
Box, and I've made a simple page count program for the printed PCL and
postscript files, it runs nicesly,
but one problem I encountered is that I can't check the "Advanced "
option on for the samba printer (I've tried to check them, but it does
not take effect), while I can do it well

paid-for-print
Hi there,
I'm newbie in Samba, so I beg for your excuse if my questions are
stupid.
Is it possible to use Samba as a "paid-for-print" server?
If U know something about another free "paid-for-print" software, please
let me know.
10x in advance,

Setting up CUPS for Samba on 390
I've scoured the newsgroups and asked MANY people, does anyone out there
have any ideas ?
I'm new to the CUPS arena and I'm trying to figure out what to do from
the separate docs. I'm using SLES7 (2.4.7 kernel). The files I'm using
are:

197341 May 22 06:22 cups-samba-1.1.19rc2.tar.gz

drivers of the printers, everything works fine, but this way I can't use
cups accounting.
So I reinstaled all my printers in cups using their PPD (using

in the process I can't print from my windows using the cups postscript

Let me tell what have I done, and how.

Samba+CUPS+Driver autodownload
Hi,
I'm trying to get Samba to offer the Adobe driver automatically for the
two printers I have set up with CUPS.
I have all of the necessary files plucked out of the Adobe Postscript
Windows driver package, but I'm hitting the problem when I come to run
"cupsaddsmb -v ..." that the "rpcclient adddrivers" command always fails
with NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL. The drivers

pdf printer
Hi,
I created a PDFPrinter as per
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=samba&m=105301236523413&w=2
I have another question, do I need to add a Color Laser Printer Driver in
W2K to the PDF share to generate color PDF in Windows?

rpcclient returns NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE on adddriver
Hi,
samba 2.2.8a freshly compiled
cups 1.1.19final-1 (debian)
while using cupsaddsmb, all runs well until adddriver, when rpcclient
returns a cryptic NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE. I've followed the
SambaPrintHowto 3.0 from 7.11.6.1 to 7.11.6.6, and it fails on the
latest as well.
Here is some more information.

more Updates to the Printing Chapter of HOWTO Collection
Hi,
I have updated the Draft for the Printing Chapter of the new Samba 3.0

as 94% finished.... hmmm, the last 6% seem to be harder than the first

A PDF version (for convenient printing) is also there.

Samba's printing support has changed so much since the 2.0.7 days that you
need to check out this document:
http://www.linuxprinting.org/kpfeifle/SambaPrintHOWTO/
Samba has changed from being a "Windows 95 workstation sharing a printer"
to a fully fledged "NT print server" and more.
You certainly wouldn't expect a Windows-95-only user (or admin) to run
an NT print server from the moment of the switch without some prior
study....

Printer drivers on a samba 2.2.8a server: how?
I'd like to set up my samba 2.2.8a server to serve printer drivers to
clients when needed. I have set up the print$ share, in which I still
have no drivers. Tried adding drivers from a win2000 workstation by
using "server properties" command, I can't add anything since all
buttons are greyed out. The user I am using is in the printer admin
group in smb.conf. I

2.2.8a, printer driver download: need to use setdriver
Hello
I'm setting up the automatic printer driver download feature, and it works
nicelly except for one little thing: I have to use, on the samba machine,
rpcclient's setdriver command to associate a printer with its driver.
I didn't see this requirement in the Samba howto, it only mentions setdriver
as a way to speed up large installations. Am I missing something? Should

newbie: instaling samba to use network printers
I have a network with an NT as PDC. There are ...5-6 printers on my
network shared by the network users. How can I use them? What do I have
to put in my configuration file?
I read Samba's doc, but I couldn't find anything.

/var/spool/samba retention period
It seems like the files sent to the samba spool and then over to CUPS seem
to stay in the /var/spool/samba directory indefinately.
Is there a fix to this via a configuration, or just setting up a cron job to
purge?
Thanks

Setting up a cups printer
I'm trying to set up a cups printer but I don't know much about printing in
linux and am a bit confused. I've installed a printer in cups using the web
interface and it works fine. All the tutorials I've read though refer to
/var/spool/lpd/lp but on my system this doesn't exist. I'm guessing this is
because I'm not using lpd, I'm using cups. There are a few
