mp3stat 2.5 released
Yes it's a shameless plug of a vorbis enabled program but other people have done it so there is precedent, for whatever that's worth. <p>You can get it at http://safemode.homeip.net/mp3stat_2.5.tar.gz Changes at http://safemode.hmoeip.net/Changelog-2.5 more info at http://safemode.homeip.net mp3stat started out as an mp3 only program to display the average bitrate of vbr mp3s. A gui was added sometime after to give a rough representation of the where...

WineD3D installation issues
...ossible or impossibly slow, even with software acceleration. I downloaded WineD3D with the intention of installing the older DX8 adn DX7 binaries figuring DX to OGL translation would still be faster on a new Geforce than your modern quad core processor but cannot install it on W7 x64. I've ran safemode, and taken ownership/set access control enabled for all (including users) on the applicable dll files and ran as admin with UAC turned off and still I get the same problem. This has been attempted individually as well as as a group. Error opening file for writing: C:\Windows\system32\(Insert DLL h...

cvs of libvorbisenc is broken.
oggenc is not responding to the -b <kbitrate> option. No matter what i set it to, libvorbisenc seems to encode the audio file at the same exact bitrate each time and it is very filesize biased. It's basically ignoring it even though the output of oggenc as it's encoding specifically states the kbit rate i told it to encode at (on average). --- >8 ---- List archives:

MMX/3dNow! etc
Hi, I´m new on this list so I really don´t know that kind of questions have been asked, but here I go. Is the current ogg plug-ins using any mmx or 3dnow! instructions? Is there any performance to gain? I know that most of the mp3-decoders uses mmx/3dnow! to decode mp3streams so in theory it would be applyable to ogg to...? Just a thought... Centos 5.8: starting firefox-16.0.1 kills X
This just started happening this evening. a little history: way back last year, or thereabouts, I posted about a weird problem I was having. over the course of 2 or 3 days I figured out how to fix it, but not what the cause was. the fix amounts to navigating to my user's .local/share/mime directory and removing the file named "globs". So, back in the present: this evening that

retrieving &quot;instant&quot; bitrate without vo_open?
ok, I'm aware that vo_open cant be used at the same time as other functions such as ogg_sync_wrote, ogg_sync_pageout, ogg_stream_pagein, ogg_stream_packetout and vorbis_synthesis_headerin. In order to get information from the bitstream i've been using this method because it's fast and doesn't require decoding of the stream. But, i can only retrieve the average bitrate of

FW: Getting PHP Config to work?
...error the online example gives. Is it something to do with specific admin rights in xorcom, or have I missed something fundamentally wrong out? I have checked the php files and the paths seem to be OK (default * installs) I have a couple of ideas as to the problem: -PHP needs something enabled e.g safemode? -Xorcom has changed something phpconfig needs e.g * not running as root or something? Many Thanks, C

Entropia Universe on Arch Linux (x86_64)
All I need to do to give Windows the finger once and for all, is to get one single game working using wine.... Well apparently I'm an idiot. I've tried following these instructions, not hoping that things would work out perfectly, just that something would work at least, but the instructions are either incredible bad or I'm Forrest Gump...

Performance tests
I did some testing of vorbis codec (Winamp plugin) on a Pentium 166 MMX, and found that the performance is pretty good. I got 3 % cpu utisization if I turned dithering off, and 5 % otherwise. This was with a 138 kbit song. It's pretty long to mp3 performance that was 0 to 1 % on that machine for a 128 kbit song. Also vorbis seems to have a larger working set, because if I play two songs at

unistalling gplpv from win7x64 gives BSOD
I have installed the 210 gplpv (debug), when I try to update them with current gplpv I get a BSOD even so when I try to uninstall them. Now I have made a bootentry that specifies NOGPLPV, what gives me a bootable system after such a crash, I found (uninstalling the leftover driver packages after getting bsod during uninstall of the main package) that uninstalling the net driver leads to bsod. Now

Why we wont use zpool ever again
Hi everyone, Just wanted to tell you a little story. We''ve been enthusiastic puppet users since about a year ago here at the Geographic Institute of the University of Zürich. But we won''t use the zpool type ever again. Its just not worth it. Here''s what happened: . one of our servers lost knowledge about one of its zfs pools . puppet didn''t find the pool

Server Hacked: Cpanel
Hi, I have servers of mixed OS, some Centos, some Fedora, and after the flame war that erupted last week (where I said basically nothing and just watched), my server was hacked by this team of hackers, actually their friend: http://www.sibersavascilar.com/ This made Karanbir's statements about mixing Cpanel and Centos (any maybe any linux distro) come true very quickly. If
