That RTL8169 thing...
Motherboard - Intel DG41TY Device: RealTek: 8111D Driver: RTL8169 Causes Kernel panic during install and boot. -- It seems that the newer the card that uses this driver, the worse the problems are. Is there any plan to roll a newer version into the installer or the actual distribution itself? Thanks, -Drew -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attach...

rtl8169 kernel dump
I installed 5.2 x86_64 on a new hp dv7z laptop using noprobe on the install line. After rebooting the rtl8169 causes the kernel to dump. Is there a parameter I can pass to it (somehow) to avoid the kernel dump??? Thanks, Jerry

Performance Issues with GBit LAN
Hi. I have 2 PC's connected with 1GBit NIC's. When I transfer a file from my File-Server(Redhat9.0, 256 SD-RAM, 300MHz PII, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD200JB RAID 0) to my Windows-PC(AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 1024 MB DDR-RAM, WINXP PRO, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD080JB RAID 0) with Samba, i get Speeds around 8-9MB/sec. I think this is too low for an GBit Network, so i tested the NIC's with the Tool Iperf (http://das...

Trying to find a bottleneck
...#39;m trying to get my network setup as streamlined as possible. I ran a brain-dead-simple speed test of Samba and I'm very confused by the results. Here's my setup: Fast new WinXP Pro machine NetGear GA311 gigabit ethernet ^ | dedicated gigabit ethernet line (no switch) v RTL8169 gigabit ethernet Relatively fast new Debian Linux machine I set up ramdisks on both machines to ensure that the hard drives were not the bottleneck. I then put a roughly 7 MB file on the linux ramdisk and mounted that disk on my windows box via Samba. I then wrote a .bat script on the windows...

Issues with r8169 gige on boot.
Hi all, I've recently upgraded a system from CentOS 4.4 to CentOS5, and now when the system boots, the r8169 ethernet card doesn't come up. After the boot sequence, if I type "ifup eth1 | ifup eth1.10 | ifup eth1.203" then the adapter starts up ok. It seems to be something with the boot sequence it loads the ethernet adapters a different way around (ie 4.4 eth0 is now

[Bridge] Re: 2.6.0-test9 : bridge freezes
...ny amount > of debugging, the thing is I don't know what to look for. > > > Anand Linus is right, this is probably a memory leak issue. There are several areas that could be the problem: - core networking - iptables - iptables filter - ethernet bridging - ethernet driver (rtl8169) To find/fix the problem, we need to narrow down the scope. Things that would help are, what are the iptables rules you are using? Are there any errors showing up on the ethernet devices? Also what does the bridge forwarding table look like? are there lots of entries, are you running spanning tr...

CentOS, RTL8196 and jumbo frames.
Hi all, I've just upgraded my home network to a Linksys SRW2024 (with lovely vlan trunking support!) and I'm trying to enable jumbo frames. When I try to set the MTU of an rtl8169 based network card (it's a Netgear RA311), it comes up with an error stating: # ifconfig eth1 mtu 9000 SIOCSIFMTU: Invalid argument The only options it will take are 1500 or below. Does anyone know anything about this? Do I need to set something special? -- Steven Haigh Email: netwiz at...

R1000 Driver for RTL8110SC NIC on Biostar I945G-M7
...s: [dc] Power Management version 2 Once I compiled and installed the r1000 on kernel 2.6.9-42.0.8, loading the driver yielded: eth1: Identified chip type is 'RTL8110SC'. eth1: r10001.05, the Linux device driver for Realtek Ethernet Controllers at 0xde00, 00:e0:4d:04:e8:c3, IRQ 209 Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter Driver version:1.05 Released date:2006/10/25 I checked another host that has a more recent 2.6.18.6 kernel and confirmed that it does *not* have the r1000. So I guess the r1000 isn't part of the kernel yet. You can get the r1000 at: http://www.rea...

Bug#702428: HVM networking tap/vif bug (Debian bug 702428)
Hi, I've been testing the Debian packages ahead of the Debian 7 release (which is very imminent) I believe this is a serious bug[1] in the package, as it appears that HVM networking is broken, or at the very least, requires some undocumented configuration step Specifically: - I can start the HVM domU without any vif - if I attach a vif, the domU will not start Looking at

motherboard for cents 6.3
Seems like overnight every motherboard that worked with linux has DROPPED off the face of the earth. Every motherboard I looked at is using the realtek 8111 chipset and a northbridge that is not supported. Example: GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3, does not work with linux I tried disabling the onboard NIC and using a PCI-E intel card I always use and that would not work either. The north or south bridge

Network stops responding after some time
Hi there, I''m using the Suse Enterprise 10 RC2 along with Xen 3.0.2 on X86-64 and I''m experiencing a problem with the network. I boot into the Xen kernel and everything works just fine. I can browse the net etc. However after a while the network stops responding completely. I am not sure what causes this to happen or what triggers it. After a few hours, the network just stops
