Initial release of PerlRsync (perl rsync client)
I have just released the first version 0.10 of File::RsyncP to SourceForge.
See:
http://perlrsync.sourceforge.net
File::RsyncP is a perl implementation of an Rsync client. It is
compatible with Rsync 2.5.5 (protocol version 26). It can send
or receive files, either by running rsync on the remote machine,
or connecting to an rsyncd deamon on the remo...

Rsync protocol specification
Hello everyone,
I am interested in updating the Perl package File::RsyncP so that it
is compatible with version 30 of the rsync protocol. I don't have
much experience with the rsync codebase, and it seems that the only
implementations of rsync are either defunct, wrappers around rsync
itself, or File::RsyncP.
Does there exist a formal specification of the protocols...

Bacula backup system
On c7 I can't find mod_perl.
Configuring bacula client requires only few lines...with bacula you need
only bacula pkgs and one database. With backuppc there are different
services to install and configure...some external to centos base. In c7,
without mod_perl I must run cgi with suid...
Ok bacula is more complex (complexity I mean for its configuration) but It
is better organized and less

...t; to install File::Rsync from cpan I must install gcc.
never met a unix that didn't come with Perl already installed, or as a
base option
Using CPAN on a package-based distribution can lead to conflicts,
rather, you should install cpan modules from a repository, for
instance, perl-File-RsyncP is in EPEL, same as BackupPC, so when I
yum --enablerepo=epel install BackupPC, it installs all prerequisites.

BackupPC 2.0.0beta0 released - now supports rsync
..., tar and now rsync over rsh/ssh and rsyncd. The backend features
hard-linking of any identical files (not just files with the same
name) and compression, giving a 6x to 10x reduction in disk storage.
It also has a comprehensive web (CGI) interface.
The rsync support in BackupPC is based on File::RsyncP, a perl rsync
client; see http://perlrsync.sourceforge.net.
A future version of BackupPC will also support block and file checksum
caching for additional performance.

rsync perl/binding (python) and libraries
...ic has been allready in past.
I am looking rsync with the idea to create perl-Binding for rsync. I saw in
the TODO list python binding has been plan in past too.
The current rsync code make this hard as rsync does not provide library
itself. Of course there is allready librsync for a lib, File::RsyncP as perl
binding, but this last one is a bit ugly, and does not support all options.
But It is really annoying to have duplication of the code.
So well, I found many solution way to done perl-Binding:
- rewrite all the code with copy/past
I don't like, waste of time, security fix to sync, ec...

rsync 3.0.5 Appears to be Transferring Unchanged Files
I have been using backuppc (rsync protocol) to backup up a Linux web
server onto a local server for a number of years. I recall that data
volumes were quite low (about 40MB), regardless of whether I was doing
full or incremental backups. I recently switched to both a new web server
and backuppc server. Early morning traffic volumes when backuppc runs are
much higher than expected - I have

Upgraded BackupPC (3.0.0) in the Testing Repository
...upgrade via yum:
Put the testing repo file into /etc/yum.repos.d/ :
http://dev.centos.org/centos/4/CentOS-Testing.repo
(the file is disabled by default)
Once you have the file in place, use this command:
----commands----
yum --enablerepo=c4-testing upgrade backuppc perl-Compress-Zlib perl-File-RsyncP perl-Time-modules perl-XML-RSS
----end commands----
(that command in all on one line if it wraps in your mail client)
You can use that diff file from above to manually add new changes to
the /etc/BackupPC/config.pl file after upgrade.
Also after upgrade, you can move all the files in /var/lib/b...
