ROaR: A Ruby on Rails Podcast
I''m starting a new podcast to cover some of the hot topics going on in Rails. Half news, half interactive, all community. As always, the first episode kinda sucks but I''m looking forward to feedback from all of you on how to make it better. http://www.simiancodex.com/roar/ or for iTunes people http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=163609703 Michael

used the described Class in a shared behavior
Is it possible to access the described class in a shared behavior? I''m trying to do something like this: describe "Siberian feline", :shared => true do described_class_instance_as :feline, :name => "fluffy", :breed => "Siberian" # or maybe before(:all) do @feline = described_class.new(:name => "fluffy", :breed =>

Hello, My system is: Server with Slackware 8.1 LINUX, ADSL Internet with PPPoE connection, and I masquerade my LAN. I use "Roaring Penguin" PPPoE client for my ADSL connection. Chasing the "ads_add_machine_acct: Insufficient access" problem
Okay, the jist of this whole thing, I get this infamous (?) problem, I have been trying to search though the archives of samba-general on gmane and also in my archive of this list. I have only seen requests for the magical answer. Environment: W2K/W2K3 mixed ADS going Native ADS only soon. Samba 3.0.4 compiled from source on a RHEL AS30 machine. MIT Kerberos v1.3.4 also compiled from source.

Rails Test Notifications w/ Growl Plugin
Hi all - I''ve just posted a quick plugin that adds notification of test failures via the Growl framework (http://growl.info) for OS X users. Its a great way to keep up with your test suite, especially when coupled with autotest. And if you''re anything like me, you probably already have Growl rocking. Anyway, see my blog for details on installing the plugin:

'Account disabled due to email bouncing' madness
We have a mail filter ( CanIt, by Roaring Penguin, see http://www.roaringpenguin.com ) that is doing a very good job indeed of blocking spam and viruses. And I certainly get a lot from this list ... so much that without the use of CanIt, I would have already had to retire my email address, and possibly even our entire domain, to avoid...

"best practices" for Rails serving RESTful JSON services for use by AngularJS, Ember.js, etc.
I''ve been writing a gem to implement and extend common controller functionality so that Rails can be used with Javascript frameworks like AngularJS (which we are using), Ember.js, etc. in such a way that the user doesn''t have to tweak a a bunch of rails g controller boilerplate code to provide services for use in these frameworks that in turn would require various changes to

How to Include Associations in #as_json
Hi, Does anyone know how to include nested associations when overriding a model''s #as_json method? Below is my attempt to include direct and nested associations. NOTE: "office" is a direct association, "company" is nested association via "office". I''d like both included in the generated json output. def as_json(options={}) super(:include

old hardware / minimal netinstall -> CPU fan control
I have just installed CentOS 6 i386 onto an old rack server (it's gonna be a Bacula storeage server and is a 1U 1/2 depth chassis) I did a minimum netinstall and so far so good. However, I have one problem. The CPU fan is going at full speed constantly. Not a real problem apart from (a) it will affect the fan's lifespan and (b) it's noisy. I've done some Googling and found

network prob on Centos 4.4/HP DL320 G2
Hi! I've installed Centos 4.4 on a machine at work (it's a HP Proliant DL-320 G2 rackmout server that serves my desktop). In recent days (Centos 4.4 has only been installed for a little over a week), like, since Wed or Thu last week, every time I reboot Kudzu wants to remove the network adaptors then reinstall them and breaks the network. I've gone to the point of disabling one of

nmbd memory leak in 2.2.x CVS
I am running 2.2.6 on a customer's site and everything has been perfect. However I noticed the other day that one of the two nmbd processes (it is a wins server) had grown to 13Mb over a two week period. I needed to update to the latest CVS version anyway and had hoped that something in that might fix things. Five days later and things are looking the same: nmbd started on Nov 9th: root

I have boosted my productivity !
Just a positive experience I would like to share with you : testing is great on paper but very tedious to apply because nobody wants to run manually the tests by hand. Last week I have discovered zentest, an automated test process command line utility. That was at the beginning (hopefully) of a new project. Believe it or not, I have started to code most parts of the application without using

old hardware / minimal netinstall -> CPU fan control
Warning:I'm new to CentOS and have not tested the suggestion below (with Linux). So please research if it sounds like a good idea. It may be worth trying to bypass the issue by installing VMware ESXi and setting up CentOS as a virtual machine. This will give you additional control and backup options for the system.
