Linus "praise" for Xen
...Nuno Silva mentioned:
The good people at Cambridge made a (very nice) VMM that exploits
ring0/1/3 to let one machine run various kernels independently (the
kernels need to be ported to the xen arch).
Xen itself executes in ring0 and the "guest" operating systems
execute in ring1. User code runs in ring3, as usual. They have linux
running under xen ;)
The project''s home page is at
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/Research/SRG/netos/xen/ and one paper describing
the whole thing is here:

OT - How does the blind transfer function work on Snom-870?
...en the call has already been answered at least once
without changing the CallerID.
I am not worried about attended transfers since then the internal ring
tone is what should be used and that is what happens now. I just need
to deal with blind transfers.
What I have now is:
1. Outside call => ring1
2. Internal call => ring2
3. Transferred call => ring1 || ring2 (depending on 1 or 2)
What I want is:
1. Outside call => ring1
2. Internal call => ring2
3. Transferred call => ring3 (regardless of 1 or 2)
If everything went though ## then that would be simple enough. The
trick...

grandstream ringtones - makering.pl usage for 1.0.50
If you wan't to create a ringtone with makering.pl for firmware 1.0.50,
be sure to create it as ring.bin and then rename it to ring1.bin /
ring2.bin or ring3.bin. This seems to be the only change between the
format from 1.0.4.68.

NMI SERR interrupts in dom0
...pt or inject back into the guest to be handled by
the corresponding vcpu. Thus, every time an interrupt is generated
inside my HVM guest, a VM exit occurs that is handled by the hypervisor
which forwards the "event" to the appropriate handler (in my case it is
the NMI handler in dom0 with ring1 privileges).
[+] At the same time, PCI SERR interrupts refer to hardware errors that
is generated by my passthrough NIC directly, so I expect that these
interrupts are physical (e.g., MSIs) so they should go directly either
to the BSP or one of the APs. However, Interrupt remapping is in place

Grandstream Ringtones on a per phone basis
...9;t serve the file up). That file contains the following line:
ri ring(.)\.bin ring\1_\i
This tells TFTP to replace any file requests that look like "ringx.bin"
with ringx_yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy, where yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy is the phone's IP
address. So, for example, if 192.168.10.100 requests ring1.bin, TFTP
will get ring1_192.168.10.100 and serve it up as ring1.bin, effectively
lying to the phone. Then you only have to generate your ring files and
place them in the TFTP root folder with access rights 664. Works like a
charm!

Can VMWare modules run alongside in XEN kernel?
I would like to have VMware modules running in the XEN kernel, NOT in DOM0 kernel but outside at the hypervisor level, is that possible?
Architecturally, I noticed that xen subbranch does not implement any modules loading. If I were to load the VMware modules directly as an ELF image, will it break any existing architectural feature in XEN?
Thanks :-).

Hello,
I have :

problem for PSTN lines, so how can I set these lines to answer immediately
(when it rings)?

BudgeTone hold?
I can't seem to make the "Hold" button function on the GS
BudgeTone-100. I'm trying a procedure like this:
1) On a call
2) Press "Hold" button
3) Hang up phone
What I expect is for the call to go on hold until I pick up the
receiver again. (Like my SPA-2000's, except it's a flash, but I can
hang up the phone and the call waits there for me to pick it up

how does hypervisor isolates DomU from Dom0
I am not clear with the working of hypervisor xen.
How does an instruction executed by kernel in Ring0 of DomU gets
mapped or executed by hypervisor and then is excuted in Dom0.
Is this thing some where on the wiki page?

autoprovision 200+ linksys phones setup
Hi there,
We have plans to install an office (not call center) with the following setup:
200 linksys 942 phones (sip + g711) on a LAN
a server with a dual port E1 sangoma and a remora card with 4 fxo modules.
So far when we want to setup a linksys phone, we need to use the http
interface of each phone, disable/enable a lot of things and plug it
into the network. this is not the best scenario for

[RFC PATCH 00/33] Xen i386 paravirtualization support
Unlike full virtualization in which the virtual machine provides
the same platform interface as running natively on the hardware,
paravirtualization requires modification to the guest operating system
to work with the platform interface provided by the hypervisor.
Xen was designed with performance in mind. Calls to the hypervisor
are minimized, batched if necessary, and non-critical codepaths
