A desktop Centos remix
Hello Centos users!
I'm doing a Centos 6 desktop oriented remix called Stella.
This has been brewing since the summer and it's starting to get ready. :-)
I've backported a lot of packages from Fedora and Rpmfusion and I
bundle several other repos, too, resulting in a big range of software
available, including but not limited to:
LibreOffice, VLC, MPlayer, Shutter, Arista, Java,

Installing Final Fantasy XI on Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix
Hello Wine Forum Members,
This is my first post and I am looking forward to many more. My first initial question is: Is it possible to run FFXI on Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Remix? I've seen some earlier posts about running FFXI on 10.04, but I haven't found anything where someone would be trying on something much smaller. I am new with ubuntu and Wine. So if this is possible is there some kind

Any way to apply TWO functions with tapply()?
I need to compute the mean and the standard deviation of a data set and would
like to have the results in one table/data frame. I call tapply() two times
and do then merge the resulting tables to have them all in one table. Is
there any way to tell tapply() to use the functions mean and sd within one
function call? Something like tapply(data$response, list(data$targets,
data$conditions), c(mean,

Related to the new laptop question: CentOS on a netbook?
I've got a netbook, circe 2009. When I got it, not that I was wild about
ubuntu, but there was specifically an ubuntu netbook remix. Well, it's a
few years later - has anyone put CentOS (6, preferably) on a netbook, and
were there any problems?

We ain''t got no RSpec
Hey Guys,
This last week on the Rails Envy Podcast we received an "interesting"
voicemail. Jason encouraged me to make a remix, and I think you guys
will appreciate what resulted.
If you have a few minutes and need a good laugh, see here for the
voicemail and the remix:

C6 or C7 for an old netbook
I've got an old HP Netbook, which is just fine for taking with when I'm
travelling, to check email and news. I have a very old Ubuntu
netbook-remix on it, and it really, *really* needs to be updated to
something current. I, of course, would prefer CentOS....
The question is: I see that *if* the specs I just looked up (I'm at work,
not home, where I could just turn it on, but they

Multi-channel labels in Vorbis comments
Hi devs :-)
At the Mozilla Festival in London recently, I took part in a Hack the DJ
workshop, looking at ways to take digital DJ'ing to the next level:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/researchanddevelopment/2011/11/setting-a-dj-challenge-at-the.shtml
One of the ideas proposed was stem mixing, using multichannel files in
DJ applications. A proprietary implementation of this idea is Fireplayer

Vorbis Comment question
...with the variety of field names, but I would really appreciate having a standard GUESTARTIST field (or something in the vicinity) to be able to better describe collaborations. This is helpful in cases where there is a main artist for the track/album, and there are also guest artists that do vocals, remixes etc. I understand that I can just put it there myself, but as long as it is not standard, players will not really recognize it when formatting tracks in playlists, etc.

I ripped a rock-and-roll CD for a client's moh. But it's too loud. Is
there a simple way to reduce the gain without having to remix the tracks?
Thanks

Map a network CD Drive

Using Ubuntu Remix 9.04, I have mounted the drive and am able to access it via Ubuntu. However cannot map a drive letter via the Wincfg interface.
The various suggestions in a various forums have suggested mapping to the /mnt/sub-folder however there does not seem to be a sub-folder in the /mnt directory. Is there something I am

I'm trying to get regular EQ to work, but it keeps crashing. It'll patch fine. The graphics get all weird at the character select screen. Like my guy will be invisible, but his weapon is there. Try to load after that and it seems to get all the way then crashes before the world shows.
I'm on a Lenovo S10-2 netbook with the Ubuntu netbook remix 10.04. I know for sure that the

How to ship R scripts with R packages ?
Hello,
(This is a remix of this previous thread:
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2009-August/054264.html , but
with a concrete example)
I am developing some packages that contain scripts (for Rscript) and
would like to know what is the best/recommended way to ship these scripts.
An example is the "ant" package (R capable version of apache ant, see
http://tr.im/xHLs). The
