read (and edit?) registry files on Linux
...y ssh access to the Linux/Samba server, and would like to be able to check settings in user profiles (in their ntuser.dat files). Best would be if I could even edit settings in there. For now, it seems the only thing I can do is scp the files to a Windows machine, and manually load the hives in regedt32. Very cumbersome. I'm looking for a more Linux-like solution: command-line, scriptable, etc. BTW, I have Samba 3.0.2a. Thanks, Mi

I have my profdata folder setup and shared, I have my NETLOGON/Default User folder created and populated with the Default Profile I created from the Hive using regedt32 in windows XP. I created a new user for Samba and attempted to log on to the domain to test the default profile. I get a small pop-up window in XP that says: USER ENVIRONMENT Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded. Check that you are connected to the network...

Folder Redirection with NT4 Domains
Hi, I'd like to hear off-list from anyone who is currently successfully using folder redirection with an NT4 domain controller. If you are doing this, please would help me to understand your secret. There are two ways I know of that should work, however I have received feedback from separate sources that claim problems with both of these methods. I would like to include in the new book

How to get rid of a server comment?
Hi all, I initially set up my Samba 3.0.20 box with this config option: server string = My server Only then I realised that when I map a network drive under XP, it shows up like this: share on 'My server (Hostname)' (X:) Where "Hostname" is the name of the machine. Not wanting "My server" showing up everywhere I tried to comment out the "server
