[4.0.0 Release] Release Candidate 2 has been tagged
Hello testers,
4.0.0-rc2 was just tagged from the branch at r294535.
There are still open relase blocking bugs and merge requests, so this
will not be the last release candidate, but we've had a lot of merges
since the last one, and I'd like to see what the testing looks like.
The test-release.sh script was updat...

...like to use csup/cvsup mechanisms
instead the branch tag to use is "RELENG_8_4".
Please be aware that cvsup and CVS are both deprecated, and while
upgrades using CVS or cvsup may work now they will not be supported for
security updates through the life of 8.4.
Changes between -RC1 and -RC2 include:
- Fix a UDP-related crash triggered by high-load UDP services
- Fix a ZFS-related hang causing systems to hang at "All buffers synced",
forcing a hard-reset
The freebsd-update(8) utility supports binary upgrades of i386 and amd64
systems running earlier FreeBSD releases....

rc2 incompatibilities ?
Files encoded with rc2 (comes from the latest RPM available at
vorbis.com) seems to be unreadable for ogg123 < rc2 version (for
example, beta4)
Is that normal ? Will this file be readable with ogg123 >= rc2 ?
Are plugins for windows player updated, can they read ogg files encoded
with ogg123 rc2 ?

Which is the best compiler to build LLVM 5.0.0 rc2?
Recently I have been building LLVM and Clang from the distribution using gcc 4.9.2. With the new 5.0.0 rc2 that is giving warning messages during the compilation. I have been trying out some other compilers.
gcc 5.2 with -std=c++11 This works, although there are still some warnings.
gcc 6.4 and gcc 7.1 fail with errors such as this in building libcxxabi as follows:
Command: /opt/cmake/bin/cmake -...

7.0.1-rc2 release has been tagged please begin testing
Hi,
The 7.0.1-rc2 release has been tagged and is ready for testing. I forgot
to bump the version number to 7.0.1 before I tagged -rc1, which is why we
are now on -rc2.
Remember, you can continue to submit merge requests up until Nov, 21,
so keep testing and submitting fixes.
Thanks,
Tom

3.9.1-rc2 is ready for testing
Hi,
I just tagged 3.9.1-rc2, so testing can begin. There was a bug found in
-rc1 before I could send out a release announcement, so I decided to merge
the fix and tag -rc2 to save some testing cycles.
We can always use more testers, so if you are interested in helping, let
me know.
Thanks,
Tom
