Verizon SIP "trunking" Field Trial
All, We are in the process of trying to setup our network to use Verizon's SIP "trunking" product. They say that since Asterisk is not on their certified list of approved devices, we need to go through a field trial to get it approved before allowing us to use their service. Where we are at is getting the design approved. We are trying to watch our budget at the same time. We

US telco lingo
Could someone explain to a non-US dummy the following phrases I have seen on the list. "I can provide you with tier 1 termination 6/6. I can blend or NPANXX breakout." "We provide US48 termination, blended rate for 1 MOU and above is .008 with 6/6." What is 6/6? What is US48? What is blended? What is MOU? What is NPANXX breakout? -------------- next part --------------

I stumbled on this list...
...my phone bills and my stomach just turns > because I can not find any competition to Verizon which is the local > anointed phone company around here. Trust me, it could be worse. You could have Ameritech, for example. Or Quest. In fact, I'd say Verizon is probably the best of the major RBOCs/ILECs (I'm in former GTE country, not NYNEX/Bell Atlantic, which might be different). But even then, they do leave something to be desired. > Since I am a neophyte at all this I was wondering if some kind soul > would confirm/disconfirm my assumptions about this software called > Ast...

Is there a way to get inserted into an LEC's CLIDB? (fwd)
...<asterisk-users@lists.digium.com> Subject: Re: [Asterisk-Users] Is there a way to get inserted into an LEC's CLIDB? NeuStar also offers CNAM db services, but VeriSign pays you for your cnam listings as they receive reciprocal compensation for their databases, probably charging rbocs, clecs etc per query.. I'm not sure about NeuStar or how they handle this, but I'm almost positive that they provide cnam updates as well... I'd look into both to get comparitive pay-outs. One of the two may also have limits, meaning you'll need to list 50+ or 500+ lines.. and n...

LNP Problems
What is the deal with "CSR's"? TWTelecom is telling me that I can't port a number to their service without a Customer Service Record. Apparently this is easy with Verizon, and not so easy with some other companies. Basically I'm at a brick wall with a couple of ports because TWTelecom is telling me I HAVE to get a CSR and certain other providers (Time Warner Cable for

The internet needs a dialing code..
It seems to me that ITSP's like to use a US dialing code eg 1-xxx Wouldn't it be cool to have an Internet dialing code?? I don't know what the structures are or how the allocations work but it would be so cool to know that 1-xxx was USA , 44-xxx was UK and yy-xxx was an internet phone.. That way the whole internet phone space could be consolidated into a single dialing structure

911, networks of * servers, etc. (was: VOIP Dialtone?)
...ider, even those which are local, and not notice a change in my bills. The cost for a business when you examine the measured service that most businesses use vs. the cost of LD, is a silly comparison - it's very often cheaper to dial via a VOIP provider than it is to dial a local measured RBOC call. Go, Go, Gadget Deregulation!! Uh... wait... "de"regulation? This may be illegal if you're a CLEC/LEC, but if you're not a phone company, go right ahead. 4) To whoever asked, http://www.voicepulse.com/ should work with Asterisk, as they are SIP based. I don't k...

OT: How to "own" a telephone number?
Hello! We are open to the possibility of changing our business telephone number shortly. This will most likely be necessary due to a physical move, changing providers and a few other reasons. However, we woud like this to be the *last* time we need to do this. Ever. No matter what. Is that possible? On the Internet, you get this power with domain names. We "own" our domain

OT: PRI costs in US
Hello! Several of my customers would like to add a backup to their Internet connection. ISDN is a good solution: decently fast for a dial-up-type connection, yet still faily affordable. While I was at it, I decided to look at a couple of more creative telephone service options to possibly improve their service or lower costs at the same time. These customers range from having just a

SS7 and Asterisk solution
Hello, We are looking for commercial solution SS7 with Asterisk. It does not need to be "build-in" with Asterisk. Could anybody suggest something? Thank you in advance. Bart
