I bought myself a PowerBook and hoped to play my FLAC-encoded library via iTunes. Alas -- it doesn't work. My understanding is that iTunes uses QuickTime for playback; does anyone know where to find a FLAC codec for QuickTime? I noticed that there was some discussion about this ~1 year ago on flac-dev. Did any dev projects get underway, or should I roll up my sleeves and give it a go? -Dave

Hi all, I've been trying to install iTunes with wine. I've followed Frank's instructions...got them installed, but, when I run iTunes, it complains that quicktime version required is 7.0.3 or later, and that I somehow have 7.0.d0.... I've seen others out there having same problem, but, no resolutions. Any suggestions or links? I've tried on wine 0.9.10 and now emerging 0.9.12. I'm running Gentoo linux... TIA, chilecayenne

I've just finished installing Apple's shiny new Mac OS X version 10.6 (aka "Snow Leopard.") One of the very first things I did was place XiphQT 0.1.9 into /Library/Components. It appears that it doesn't work with the new QuickTime X: The .ogg and .ogv files are grayed out in the Open File dialog box and cannot be selected. After a bunch of cumbersome testing I was able to transcode a Quicktime MOV file to OGG with theora and Vorbis. The method's a bit fumbly, but it works... It runs for eight minutes and the audio is also fantastic using the lame encoder.
